Armistice

Son of Yoda
A couple of years ago, after playing Led Zep's "Rain Song" in standard (incorrect) tuning for about 20 years, I actually looked up the tab on OLGA or one of those sites, and found a version in DGCGCD which made it (a) real easy to play (b) more authentic sounding - so I believe this was probably the tuning JP used.

I forgot all about it until the other day when someone posted an "alternate tunings" thread here, so I dug the pages out again, relearnt Rain Song in this tuning, then started noodling on other stuff just for interest.

It's really cool - can recommend you give it a try - almost 12 string like because of the three octave pairs, and the single tone difference between the two highest (pitch) strings.

I may raise every string a semitone though, not much tension on them as it is, making it a little difficult to pick.

Give it a try if you like mucking round with alternate tunings.

Cheers

I personally love DGDGBD (open G) tuning. It's a slide guitar tuning but i hardly play slide. It's just really simple to form beautiful chords. Alan Sparhawk of the band Low uses it extensively, and i can see why :D. But yes, DGCGCD is awesome as well. I love all the alternate tunings, alittle variety doesn't hurt!

Armistice, yeah,

As soon as I saw the title of this thread, I thought 'Rain Song.' A friend of mine showed me the correct tuning for it a while ago, and it was a real eye/ear opener. Kinda humbling to know I've played the song incorrectly for 23 out of 25 years...BTW, it is even better on a 12 string.
