Event Studio Precision 6 or Dynaudio BM5A

Neither. i would get the BM6 passives and a power amp because it is more flexible, upgradable, and in my opinion sounds better:)

The BM6As sound FAR better than the 5As in my opinion; they've got a ton more depth and seem to handle faster transcients with ease. Before you drop the money for those, however, check into the Event 20/20 bas monitors. You can find them in great shape on ebay for around the $300 mark. Some great monitors for the cash, and unless you have a sub they'll probably give you a more accurate image than the SP6s. Unless you're willing to step up to the SP8s...

Hi Guys!

I'm using Event TR8 for the moment, and I must say that I'm very pleased... But remember, the room you mixing/mastring in (which if you're hard on details should not be the same room..) is in great weight of how the sound will be colored... But that's something you get used to with time. My room makes the treble-frequensys appear much sharper then the are... But I know it is the room, 'couse it's fucking concrete... Should soundproof in some way, but that takes time, which i don't have!

very well, my TR8's are not fore sale.... The rest is up to you!

My gut says go the Dynaudio route. The only reason I can't be more firm on that is because I do not have much time on the little bm5a's. What I can tell you is this though, I have heard them and plenty of Event monitors. Well I do think that Events ASP series is definately head and shoulders above their others, I think that any of the Dynaudio's I have heard (even the 5a's) make all the other Event's sound like garbage. When I compared the 5a's directly, I liked them better than the ASP6's, but the ASP8's were pretty nice in my opinion. I don't think that either hold up well to the BM6 though. The BM6 is where you really start to get that "Dynaudio" sound. Personally, I prefer the passives to the actives for many reasons which I won't go into here.

I have been told that the problem with Dynaudio's is that make EVERYTHING sound awesome... so mixes tend to not translate too well.

Whoever told you that probably just can't mix well. I would not say it is the monitors fault. Dynaudio monitors are found world wide in all sorts of nice studios. There is probably a reason for that;)

I can't see how you can compare the two?
Dyns and Events sound quite different to me, its not that ones better or one has more gold records...but can't you hear a noticeable difference?
Like KRK has their sound or JBL has their sound.

Seems this difference alone would help you decide or go one direction or the other.

LCD..Have you heard them both or just started looking?

Coolcat (which used to be my screen name in college),

Unfortunately nowhere in my area has the Dynaudio's for me to hear. But when it boils down to it, I think I'm going to make my decision based on bass response, since I produce hip-hop/r&b and most of my tracks are sub-bass heavy.

Nah; it's more like, all you have to do is make your mix sound awesome on them. You don't have to worry about compensating for how your monitors sound (unless your room is goofy), or worry too much about your mix sounding completely out of whack on another set of speakers.

If you are wanting crazy bumping sub-bass like in a pimped out car, you will probably want a subwoofer with them though. Not much doing by the time you get to 40Hz or so. The ASP8's go down a little lower in the bass range.

I agree on the sub too. Although the poor mans way will be to do your checks in the rumbling contest car stereo as a part of your normal mix check procedure, probably a good idea no matter what speakers you get.
Like one post said they go around and take notes at different enviroments and try to get an average...then go back and re-mix etc..(other words put in effort).

IMO, HR already doesn't have the huge mains for microscopic listening, and use the one "standard 2-way" set for mains and want it to translate immediately without leaving the mixing console. This perfect one mix goal is pretty high expectations for any speaker with or without a sub.

I just heard a "studio" version of some tracks, $1800 later....its way too bright, and in short, I've heard better home recorded stuff lately.

Point well taken...
