Just wondering what everyone here is matching their RE20 up with. I recently purchased one and my SP VTB-1 doesn't offer up enough gain for my liking. The three I've whittled it down to are The Golden Age pre73, the FMR RNP and the UA solo 610, now I know these three pres are very different from one another, but that's the price range I'm looking in. Any suggestions are welcome :)

If it were me. I would go for the GA pre73 for if you want to change up the sound with the over drive to add color that option is there. And don't go for that modding hype of the 73 it's great right out of the box but if you were to mod it just go for the input tranny that is where it will make the most difference. ;)

Yeah, I've been leaning towards the GA pre73, and I'm definitely gonna grab one stock. Seems to have everything I need at a nice price point.

Well there you go Clit. Post up what you think of it when it comes in and you get to work with it.

I would go for the gap, if you can do it for three benjis, why go for seven?

That said, I would love to try out the 610 myself! ;)

Also curious about the 610. Is that the one that doesn't supply phantom power? Not that you'd need it for a RE-20.

If you don't mind running on batteries, the SD MM-1 offers up 66dB of stepped gain. And a few other bells and whistles. Limiter, low cut, quite a few power modes. It came with a power connector, but it's just the connector. As in what plugs into the unit, but not any of the other thing(s) that it would otherwise be connected to. Noticeably better than my Korg MR-1000 preamps, which were marginally better than a DMP3. IMO. Rated to 20 hours on 2x AAs without phantom power turned on. Supposed to be in proximity of 4 hours with phantom power. Depending on your greedy mics. And if you use the monitoring bell/whistle.

The RNP is actually made in/near Austin, TX. Which is in proximity to me. Although I don't think that it's as well received as the 610. Not that I've ever used one (yet).
