Hi

I have the afore mentioned mixer. I want to put the outs to my monster sound card. Would i use the MAIN outs or the TAPE outs? Thank You.

You can use either, but I use the main outs from my 802A.

If you look at the signal diagram in the manual you'll see that the main & tape outs are on the same circuit. The only difference is the connectors.

Use whichever one is more convenient for you.

Oh, and don't ever light up the yellow lights when tracking.;)

Actually I think there is more of a difference. If my memory is correct, the mains are balanced and have a hotter (+10) signal level. The tape outs are unbalanced consumer line-level. please correct me if I'm foggy on this.

I have a 802A, and when I was using a SB Live /Audigy, I used the tape outs to the sound card line-in. Since switching to an Audiphile 2496 I now use the main outs. If your sound card is a Diamond Monster, I would suggest using the tape outs.

My 802 puts out the same -10db signal level on both the tape & main outs which are both unbalanced.

Consider the fog lifted.:D

Hi

Yes, I do have a Monster M80. In the diagram in the users manual, they show a loop from the tape machine. Should I be concerned about getting a signal back to the mixer or will TAPE OUT suffice? Thanks.

The only way the output from your soundcard is gonna get to the mixer is if you connect it. The only reason to do that would be if your using the mixer to route your monitor signals. If your using a separate setup for your monitors, don't worry about it. You can use the tape-in as another stereo line-in to the mixer's L+R bus, bypassing the trim, EQ & panpots of the regular line-in channels.

If that is the case your gonna have to do some creative signal routing to keep your soundcard's output from getting back to the input (creating a feedback loop) when you record.

I stand corrected about the mixer!

Its, here how I have mine hooked up - keep in mind this is not my #1 recording rig, it sits by my general purpose computer that I use for almost everything, including recording from Radio & cassette.

Mixer outputs: The mains go to the sound card inputs. The Control room out goes to an amp that feeds some Yamaha monitor speakers. The tape outs & aux (effects) outs are unused.

Inputs: Channel 1 & 2 -- I have a Stereo receiver which brings in playback from radio, cassette, and turntable from its "tape outs"
Channel 3 & 4 - a return from the output of the sound card. 5 & 6 - A seperate audio output from an ATI All-In-Wonder card (lets me watch TV on the computer)

Mr. Bane is right about being carefull to avoid a feedback loop. When recording or monitoring the input of the sound card the playback needs to be muted, either via the volumne applet in Windows or by turning the playeback volumne off at the mixer. Whe I used to have a Creative Audigy card this was a constant problem, because this card always defaults to passing any input through to the outputs. Since switching to the Audiophile 2496 this is a non-issue, because of the very nice mixer aplet that comes with this card. You can set up mixer "presets" - I have one with the cards line-in muted, and one with the playback muted (I can still monitor inputs from the mixer). So I just click once with a mouse and feedback isn't a problem.

Im using a 602a too
about my setting,I run tape out into soundcard's line-in,tape in into Soundcard's speaker-out and Main out to Monitors.
but I really feel annoying that I have to press "2tk to ctrl room"(when Im tracking)and "2tk to Mix"(press back when I want to hear how the track sounds like) alot
I have a question that if Im hearing from monitors with "2tk to Mix" on,the sound seems louder and clear....is it?
and something I feel annoying too is when I forget to switch off the line-in button in pc and hearing the tracks in monitors,I get a hi-freq. feedback from pc(almost be deaf)haha

Moreover, how can I connect a preamp and compressor to the track?cos there are mic pre in channel 1 and 2.how to bypass it?
