That sounded pretty good! The fiddle real "Blends" well with the already recorded music. what mic did you use on the fiddle?

WOW!!!!!!!! what a cool song!!!!!!!!!!! yo DK, your fiddle fit's in well, but it sound's like maybe it's in a different room???? too much room sound or something?? as compared to the rest of the song. I don't know how to explain it??? But it really add's something to the song!!!!!!!! Your a true musician DK!!!!
i wish i could explain myself better!!!! anyway, ignore me, man. for i know not what i say!!!! way to guy's!!!!!!

Thank's fella's!!!!

Peace

Rick

Thanx fellas. My mic stinks, and I dont have a pre-amp. My Pre is a spirit folio mixer, and my mic is an Avlex C 133 condenser. It is ironic that I have a killer fiddle, but it sounds like I recorded it in a tin can. I will try to record some more fiddle tracks, but I agree: the violin part doesnt fit into the sonic element, but it is a nice touch.

Boys, SEND ME SOME MONEY.

I bid you good day:)

Good stuff. Sounds really good. The fiddle playing is very good. It does sound like it's in a different room though. If you could figure out how to bring it in to the rest of the mix it would sound totally kick ass.

sounds like another keeper to me :D

David, the sound on the violin's not bad. It's okay, but if I was gonna change one thing to make it better, it would be the room. It sounds to me like it would sound better if the room was deader - more carpets, more bookcases, more curtains, less glass and hard surfaces. A better mic would be nice of course, and your violin sound and playing deserve a really good mic. The pre's a way less important issue. Playing, instrument, mic, room, placement. That's the important stuff.

This illustrates a Great Big Issue on collaborations - getting the different sounds to work together. It's really hard to control if stuff was recorded in different rooms, or with samples with a reverb on them you can't remove or cut - then you have to mix the whole thing according to the wettest track. That's what's happening on this song - the singer and the guitar and percussion are right up front, and the violin sounds like it's off in an alcove somewhere. If I was the producer (gee, I love saying that :D), I'd want the violin to sound much closer to the singer, just at his side.

The playing's ace and fits the song like a dancing glove. Did you have a chart or did you just listen and work out a part on your own?

Good song, nice collaboration. Good work.

Outstanding all. Great guitar work and of course the violin is the best. As pointed out, it sounds like too much of the room is in the violin mic but eith that performance, it's REAL easy to live with.
By the way Dave, I'll have a CD in the mail to you by tomorrow.
Outstanding tune gentlemen.

nice! agree with all the previous comments about the room etc., but the playing is great as always!

Kicks Ass!! I knew this would be excellent.

All the guitar work sounded/fits like a glove...and as much as I hate to say it, so does the fukkin' fiddle.

You both have taste. I don't hear the I MUST JAM HERE vibe that can get out of control on stuff like this.

And Dave...cheap or not, the mic seems to be capturing a lot of your instrument...I honestly think you might need to turn the gain down and get really close to it, LOL...or record in a closet, or whatever you need to do to get some proximity on your BEEYOOTIFUL strings.

I love to see stuff like this happen. It just rules.

Kicks ass! Fiddle seems a little loud in parts, but man you sound great. Loved this!

I thought the idea of the collaborating is great, and the spontanity of both you guys just adding on to it. Sonically, it does have some problems, but everyone seems to be aware of that, and that isn't really the issue it seems anyway. The added guitar is nice, but a little "crowding" at times. The added violen is a great sound to add to this song, and the melodies are good too.

Now...going against the frickin' grain, like I always seem to end up doing, I have a problem with the violen, mainly because it's coming from a first rate player. The playing has a "stiff" feel to it. I can only describe it as something similar to a person who can only read sheet music, but lacks with the improvising stuff. Certainly not the situation I would suspect in your case, but it has THAT sound. Otherwise...it is very good.

Nice comment. I listen to a tune one or two times, and then I play a violin track. I dont plan it, in fact I dont ask people. I hear a tune that I like, and I play the violin.

I get paid for what I do. I dont get paid for adding some violin parts to some HR recordings, I just enjoy music, and I enjoy the guys around here.

It may be stiff, but I recorded a few more violin trax tonight.

THAT sound is a guy who is very busy. I actually play music for a living, so I do not have a lot of time to learn recording stuff.

I hang here because I dont know much about home recording. I have done another version of the tune, but I know more about improvising than you know about your Asshole.

My resume includes:
REM
YES
ELO
STYX
Meatloaf
Depeche Mode
Sting
Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Johnny Cash
Brian Wilson

I am stiff , but I can spell violin.

Shit, just when I get ready to post, this stuff happens. Oh well.

David--the violin sounds great to me and I liked the recording of it. It has the sound of an instrument where the wood has dried for about 60 years so its able to resonate like a real old Martin does. Something about the dry and aged wood. (Of course, you'll tell me its a new Suzuki or something!)

I liked the "in the kitchen" sound myself. I thought it added something to the recording. I did not hear the Erland sans JMarcomb/DavidK tracks, but theres a big low mid hump in the recording that I wish was gone. I also had a bit of trouble with feeling like Coop was getting a tad buried in places. But I liked the added guitar and fiddle.

I realise that you probably worked with MP3 and didn't have the luxury of separate tracks for everything, which limits what you can do with a mix, so I'm not gonna nitpick anymore. Its a cool song made into a better performance with the collab.

I like it..Nice job!Wish I could get you to play on some of my stuff! But you are prob. too dam expensive LOL..

gee, maybe I need to underline and put in bold in my reviews here in the clinic when I say; first rate player and stuff like that.

didn't realize you are such a sensitive prick too, besides being a good player.

Go back and listen to the fucking track and if your ears know more than I know about my asshole (is it that you study YOUR asshole?), you'll realize where I am coming from. Or maybe you think all your 2nd takes are earth shattering wonders. Maybe...maybe not.

and sorry to give my opinion...but actually, I'm not. That is what I am here for.

oh..you gonna bitch me out for Jmarcoumb too....stating about the "crowded guitar "?

I realize your big-wig credentials, but your "lordship".....how should I have phrased what I heard? Or do I just say...oh..everything here in the clinic is just great...top notch... couldn't do better, you improvise better than I know my asshole.., nice job, wow....you're so nice to donate your free time...hey...a star playing with some hr.com schmuck...!! lookie here.

Don't get me going. I like you DavidK, and you're an impressive musical talant. But this time, fuck you.

and besides...they're all fiddles in Kentucky anyway...not violEns

Nice addition to erlands tune David.I can appreciate it for what it is.Just having some fun adding fiddle parts to a song that you liked and thought would sound cool with a fiddle. It sounds really good with the fiddle parts....I can feel your pain when it comes to low end homerecording gear.:DIm lucky if I can get anything listenable out of my shit.

I dont think mixmkr was going for a direct hit at you.He usually applies the same standard of critique to everything, even if it's something like this where the recording situation was no the best it could be working with mp3's etc.

Anyways,I enjoyed it and thanks for hanging out and contributing time and effort to some of the tunes around here.

I went back to have another listen.....check it out again..
It's gone... how come?

3rd take?

btw, I'd appreciate any comments on my stuff, especially from a person with your credentials. Nothing earth shattering, I'm sure,..infact most of the stuff there now has a lot of STIFF midi stuff..... but if you have the time.

now why didn't I just say that to begin with? Maybe I can use this [with your permission of course, Kramer] to use this as stock answer #1. ..and make minor adjustments to suit the thread... spell violin correctly, or better yet...abbreviate with vln....just like gtr, HH, OH mics, sn, voc, etc...

well..for my 14th post in this thread...I see you put the tune back up...I presume another remix, as I am typing this waiting for the download. (for some reason, it seems nowhereradio won't stream, and d/ls are required).

Seems like the same take as before..maybe I wasn't correctly accessing the site before..... No...there is a new riff there.

thx

btw, I was going to post something to this song also, but I got distracted, and never finished it completely. Maybe if I do something final, I'll let ya know. You might be interested in what another home reccor might "see" in this song and their "take" on it.

btw...Kramer's assessment was right on the money...more or less.
