my otari-4 doesn't seem to erase all the way....I'm not exactly sure how to adjust this because there is no standard tweaker for this.......anyone run into this on some other type of machine perhaps?

Are you using SM911 or a +9 of some kind? Erase level can be adjusted. Erase and bias share the same oscillator. Not sure where the specific tweakers are on your Otari. A misalignment of the heads can also cause poor erasure. Head height or less than optimal tape contact with the erase head are things to look at. Are some tracks worse than others as far as erasure goes?

1. Head alignment
2. Erase level adjustment

In that order

:)

I mistakenly messed with the wrong bias screw on my 38 once and found that one track not erasing. I was able to tweak it back to total erasure.

thanks!!

the heads are aligned just fine, but they are a bit worn and I suspect this may be the issue. the bias is set to -4 so there should be plenty of juice. I would love to do the erase level adjustment but there is no tweaker! although there is an unmarked VR, #207....
