Hi guys,

I have been recording recently through a dreaded SB live 24bit external card. Just been waiting to have enough money to buy something that can give me low latency with no interference. I've tried to get the latency down o the SB live, but it's impossible to record with for longer than 20 seconds (i.e. a multitude of very small takes to get a track done).I've had to go back to my old copy of cool edit pro to get anything recorded as Ausition just lags way too much. I have also tried asio4all and it didnt help. So now I have roughly about 300$ to spend on a card. I basically need something with atleast 4 analog inputs, and that is compatible with Audition. Anyone have any suggestions? (While you're at it anyone that has any way of reducing those latency issues on an SB external let me know) Thx in advance.

If u don"t Mind a PCI card the Delta 44(4 in 4 out) or delta 66 (6 in/6 out) or a delta 1010LT(10 in 10 out) which are all less than $300 but you will still need preamps for each input.......

I had been looking at those Delta cards. I have a Peavey SRC2400 24 track mixing desk, do you think I need a separate pre-amp even with this?

If you have a mixer with mic preamps that you like and those channels have either direct-outs or insert jacks, you can use em just fine.

I personally like my Presonus Firepod, and its baby brother the Firebox would do ya fine - 2 channels mic/instrument, 2 channels line input w/ MIDI I/O, SPDIF connection, and line outs to run recorded signals out to processors, etc.

300 new, but you can get em for a hundred less used on ebay. And yes, I am selling one on ebay, and not suggesting it because of that - its a good unit, and all Ive used :)

After looking around I've decided to go for the presonus firebox. Are there any serious issues with this card or is it a quality product?

I had thought of putting in the extra cash to go for a firepod, but there seems to be issues with this more than the firebox from what I've read.

Is it really worth getting a firewire device? Are PCI products inferior?

I like the Presonus Firebox, and owned one for a while. I wrote a review of it here: http://www.sonicstate.com/articles/article.cfm?id=131

PCI interfaces are not inferior, but there are some advantages to using a firewire interface. For example, you can use it with any computer that has a firewire connector. Meaning, you can use it at home with your desktop computer, and also with a laptop if you need to do some location recording.
