Some days, I choose a HR thread to expound upon. This appears to be today's pick.
Before we all go totally viral on this poor lad, maybe we should step back a bit and think it through a moment. There are probably very few of us who have not left some gear in what we would later realize was a bad place for gear- but it seemed like a good thing to do, at the time. I, for instance, recall a certain Vox Essex Bass amp that I put in the storage shed of the first house I lived in in New Orleans- the leaky roof, general humidity and petty crime that was and still is so prevalent there meant that when I happened to recover what was left of my amp, it was a sodden, rusty mess. Fast-forward to the dates of Hurricane Katrina, the flooding in Nashville, etc. and we can see that our young friend is, at the least, in good company- lots of musicians in those cities and others have lost lots of gear.
So, maybe we should give some thought to helping this bunch of kids out. Don't we have a "Pay It Forward" thread somewhere? This might be that sort of thing- maybe, collectively, we DO have the means to lend a hand to these kids in Chicago, and maybe they ARE already working their asses off to raise money.
So, how 'bout it, BBCG- tell us the whole story. Tell us about your band- what kind of music you play, what you have been able to accomplish so far, maybe post a vid or audio file with your music (who cares about production quality? Just get it on here... Some back-story on the members- names, influences, why you might need charity- i.e. if Daddy works for my friend Larry's (in Chicago,) law firm, or the one he left, we might not be too sympathetic, but if Mom and Dad are struggling just to pay the bills, that might make a difference. That sort of thing. Help us understand you better.
And guys, please take a moment and listen to what this kid has to say- once he actually
says it. Really, who knows what might come from this- our participation could help this band (or members thereof) become the next Train, Miles Davis or Muddy Waters. Or, we could continue to snub these kids, and be responsible for one of 'em turning into the next Ted Nugent or Mel Torme! I
sure wouldn't want
that on my conscious...
