Hi there,
After a decade long sabbatical I've resumed recording, but my voice naturally occupies a lower range now and tends make a mix sound muddled in the midrange.
I've tried compression and EQ on the voice and EQ on the instrumental backing but I'm not happy with the tonal effect of either after doing so.
My style varies from folk with acoustic guitar (no problems there), to west coast folk rock (not UK folk/rock) and sometimes a Tom Petty Refugee kind of rock - not the vocals, just the backing.
I can still hit the high notes I used to hit but I want to explore the lower range I now have
and find a way to balance it in the mix.
