Sorry in advance if this is the worng forum direct me away if necessary.
I've been using cubase sx2 for about 2 years now and have mastered some good
techniques but recently have been working hard to earn abit of cash to upgrade.
instead someone ran over me in their car and i got lots of compensation so now i have green eyes and want to get some new equipent.
so far i still need some essentials.
here is my setup
banging fast pc i built whoop!!
presonus firebox
yamaha dgx 620 keys (i only use it for midi though line out is awful)
takamini g series semi acoust
cubase sx2
rode nt1-A for vocals and guitar
Reason 4.0
Alot of freebie plugins for fx
I know its not a lot but hey BUDGET!!! lol
firstly I record a lot of acoustic guitar and vocals and piano but mainly the piano is vsti ( know a good one?). im using 4front true pianos demo at the moment only got 30 days left lol. I also need some more hardware im thinking
Active nearfields. im looking at krk rokit p5 (seem well rated i know i should listen first)
and poissbly a rode nt2-a vocal mic (any views? i record female and male vocals and acoustic guitar) i seem to get a nice sound double tracking with the nt1-A
I'm Upgrading to cubase 5.0 and definately picking up and new mic and active monitors
which takes me roughly to 800 GBPounds. (The cubase is student price £250).
what i want to get is
a) some decent EQ, Compressors limiters etc... for recording and mastering
b) a good well sampled piano for vst use
c) Some vst instruments for addition eg. something like reason but better samples
d) an idea of a package that might contain stuff i need and a few freebie extras ie. Native Instruments KOMPLETE 5 (any reviews)
So as i say for software i am cmpletely new but recording and working with cubase i have a few years expereience but i don;t mind being treated like a fool. blast away lol
Any help will be appreciated even if you tell me to get a mac ha ha
working budget £2000
ps so far the firebox has worked flawlessly for literally the two years i have owned it, and to upgrade would be a big step in money so my focus is on the mics and the software at this time. I do understand that the input is very important so that will eventually be my next step but my focus is on hearing out loud what im hearing in my mind and tweaking away with my head between the monitors.
Thanks
Ben

I can recommend the samples from Komplete 5 (Kontakt 3 is included I believe). It has a concert grand which sounds excellent, and a wonderfully sampled August Forster which sounds so powerful. The rest of the samples are decent enough (33Gb I think).

Cubase 5 does come with EQ and insert effects - try using them until you feel the need to upgrade. It might be worth buying a graphic EQ if you want to look at mastering, but i'm not really experienced enough to comment on that. I would want a proper graphic if I were paying 2k anyway.
