Ensoniq Or Not?

Okay, I'm just starting out. I've been going over my options,posting questions,etc.

I have a new PC on the way, I am planning on running N-track studio for multitracking. I want to record drums ran through a mixer in stereo or possibly in to 4 trx.Then record everything else individually.

On fasoft.com's message board, and on other places, I'm getting a loy of suggestions to get 2 Ensoniq audioPCI cards.

But I found out this morning that these are only 16 Bit.I don't know enough about this to know if that is gonna be a big difference to me. I want the most bang for my buck.BUT I want it to sound good ,too.

Is that card gonna give me a pretty good sound if everything else is done right? If not what card/cards do you suggest?
 
One of the n-track posters (I think Keith Forman) has a method to rename the driver on Ensoniq cards and so get windows to not see them as the same card.This allows you to run multiple copies of the same card in sync (which n-track supports).Its an inexpensive ($30 or so) 16 bit card with decent headroom.
16 bit 44,100K is the current redbook CD standard.But things are moving toward 24 bit 96K in the pro gear ,which you then downsample to 16/44.Lots more money to get into 24 bit however.Hundreds for the cheapest 24 bit card.
I am an n-tracker who used to have synced 16 bit cards (Ensoniq) who recently upgraded to 24/96 as my finances allowed.

Thanks, Tom. I think I'm gonna go with the 2 Ensoniq's. But maybe Turtle Beach.

Anyway, is installing the 2 soundcards gonna be a major job,and if so do you think that dude will kinda walk me through it, or give me some advice?
 
I would go to the n-track forum and do a search for "keith" and "sync" and "ensoniq".The time frame was sometime last summer,so watch the time parameter of your search.You'll have to look way back.
Or perhaps post a message there and someone who remembers more clearly than I do could direct you to his page.The driver info is on Kieth's home page.If you simply install both cards,Windows will see both drivers as the same driver (they are identical after all).Keith's method involves renaming one of the drivers to something else and BINGO windows will then see them as individuals.Good luck.
