My friend has a huge rack with all these processors in it, and last time I saw his band play I noticed only 3 of the units were turned on. His Pod Pro, a little gold colored single rack space unit with tubes which I couldnt identify from how far away I was, and a power amp. His guitar tone was awesome. It was really thick and crunchy, and although it was heavily distorted it sounded clean and smooth. After they played I asked him what all he used in his rack and he said the pod pro, an enhancer (or maximizer, I cant quite remember which of the two that he said), and a power amp. I like the Pod and everything but I didnt know how it could sound so good and he said they key was the enhancer. He said it takes his tone from "machine head" to "fear factory" (metal fans will know what that means.) Anyway, does anyone else here use enhancer or maximizers or whatever in their rigs? What exactly do they do? I'm thinking of getting one sometime.

For what it's worth, I play hard rock/metal and I hate the way the BBE Sonic Maximizer colors my tone. Then again, I use a SansAmp and a Boogie and neither of those amps need it like the POD does.
