I am mainly into Hip Hop (fav's include Pete Rock, Jazzy Jeff, Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, and tons more I should be mentioning, to name a few Producers)

I went to school to learn the ins and outs of Recording, and feel i've come a long way in 2 years. (I'm still 21 and still on that dern Internship mode which I feel is the result if politically incorrect injustices)

But damn, after working with Hip Hop cats for a while, doesn't it get sickening? Makes ya just want to crawl in your own hole and work strickly out of your own studio, do your own beats, and not let anyone pertaining to Hip Hop come by.

What's up with that? I LOVE Hip Hop, I live in Philadelphia where there are alot of great artists, but cat's don't know how to act.

Sorry, I'm just venting some frustrations. If you feel the same way or feel strongly the opposite, or like mashed potatoes with garlic in it, feel free to input.

Then you need to start your own production company. ;)

I Agree!

Cut the BS, make your own stuff, keep it to yourself and be VERY selective. Home training comes in handy...keep those without it AWAY! What needs to be in your life and in your studio will come. I don't care HOW GOOD an artist is...if they can't behave...they can't behave...think of music as work and a business, build your own stuff and you won't have TIME to deal with the BS...i'm sure their are plenty of mild mannered talented artists out there...Good luck.

I engineered fulltime for about a year or so .... I had the same feelings you are expressing. My solution was just as Spinsta said start your own production company.... I also chose my engineering sessions very selectively.... Also stopped engineering out of the budget room and moved into the premium room... This seperated the men from the boyz although there is less room for error because of the level of experience and the results these particular clients where use to.... THese clients also tend to spend mor money for production...

In terms of the artist the first thing I look for is a person that I can work with... Someone who knows time and place, someone mature... I don't care how nice your are if I can't talk to you it is pointless... Believe me this profile exists you just gotta long for em.....
