I'm working on a project in which I'm emulating three musical genres that I haven't approached before, and while I'm confident in programming the drum parts with BFD2, I'm wondering if anyone has any advice regarding drum mixing tricks.
First, I have to tackle a Beatles "Ticket To Ride" era type of sound (want to keep it stereo, though). Thinking of experimenting with mainly using the overheads and maybe supplementing with a bit of room mics level?
Second, I have a 70s Disco emulation I need to work on. I'm a little more confident in mixing this one, and I'm leaning towards using just direct and overhead mics.
Lastly I need to emulate a mid-80s "Final Countdown" sound from the band, Europe. This one will likely benefit from a thwacky snare with gated reverb.
If anyone here has experience in mixing drums in these era-specific styles, I'd love to hear your tips and tricks!
