Emulating a clavioline?

Okay, first off, if you're wondering "what's a clavioline?" listen to "Telstar" and "Jungle Fever" by The Tornadoes, or "Runaway" by Del Shannon...that's a clavioline. I've been trying to figure out, as I gear up toward home recording sometime this summer/fall, how to emulate a clavioline. It finally occured to me to record my little Koestler Harmophone reed organ, and "beat" it into a clavioline using software effects.

Right now, I've only got Cubase VST 4.5, to use on my Power Mac G3, so I'm wondering what VST effect(s) I might look for, in order to tweak the sound of my reed organ into that of a clavioline? Short of actually seeking out a real deal clavioline, this is the best I can think of, as I don't think I'd have very good luck with current MIDI keyboards or USB keystations.

Thanks Tim! That's where I went wrong, on my google searching. I'd simply typed "clavioline" into the search string, rather than "clavioline samples." And now that I know there are samples available, I won't have to use the convoluted method I'd devised, toward a clavioline sound in future recordings! :)

And personally, I think it was the early Univox organ (the predecessor to the Continental). I know about the Clavoline from Joe Meek's estate sale, but I'm not convinced.

Claviolines

I used to play Telstar on a Selmer clavioline in the 1960's. Sad to say I sold it. In the last year I purchased 3 more on e bay and I am in the process of having them overhauled. No modern keyboard creates the valve sounds of the clavioline. On my web site there is a Juke Box page with sample tracks from my albums. To create a sound near to the clavioline I played one of my keyboards, the Hammond XK3 on full distortion. Full details on www.chestnutbankproductions.co.uk There is also a company in the UK that sells reprints of the original Sevice Manual.
When Joe Meek recorded Telstar he treble tracked the lead clavioline.
All the best from the UK.:drunk:
