I picked up a 1820 EMU card+interface box. $160 at GC.

hardware issues finally resolved by changing PCI slots and a reboot. (as I had read on the internet). just passing that along.

So all Lights are on, hardware looks good. The software CD was loaded...no issues.

NOW! No sound. No reading on the mic input either?
I do alright with hardware but the software is not the case!

Anyone available to help would be appreciated.

Is it windows system software?
Or all this Cubase,Wavelab,etc....

I don't even have my little speaker icon at the bottom right  anymore?

What I really want to do is have this EMU kit and use my Kristal Software Studio going, is all. The Kristal was working great. I was just trying to upgrade a soundcard and add an interface.

Does your card use Patchmix? If so, did you read the instruction manual and how to use and configure it?

There's a little bit of a learning curve usually to get that going.

thanks gang...yes, its the Patchmix DS application..

all this software stuff... thanks I'll go try this Patchmix stuff.

well I played a MP3 in windows media player and there's no sound.

the patchmix is showing led's moving in the first strip "wav 1/2" and also the main mix out led's.

no sound coming out though and still I/O dock card not giving option to select an input?

this is starting to be a drag...

I just wanted a frkn soundcard upgrade and interface and Kristal.

I didn't really want Patchmix, CUBASE and WAVE labs...geeez.

Read the online manual, the manual form the box, and several threads (some helpful).

all this driver and config for every ASIO and WDM??? dang

It looks pretty sitting here all lit up though.

Emu 1820

ok, 20th reboot....still no sound. 10hrs later from starting.
She'll be back on the shelf at Guitar Center by 9pm.

I'll go back to my Turtle Beach Aureal8830 card and Kristal Software that worked without this bs.

Maybe its a defective one, or it really is quirkey?

$160 seemed like a good deal and the specs looked nice.

EMU kicked my ass.........it's out, I give ....geez?

And one final note.
I highly recommend anyone to go to the Forums to verify this frequent issues of:
1) No sound
2) Audio Dock (interface box) lights locking up requiring card resetting and no real fix to date.
3) reloading/restoring defaults due to software problems

forum.creative.com >>1820, 1820M
productionforums.com >>1820, 1820M

Edit 3:

I took it back and took home the last one they had on clearance. I kind of stuffed all the goodies from both into mine. So I really have a complete 1820 set. Anyway, long story short....it was up and running in 1 hr.

The TFPro preamps had me wanting to give them one more try (gearlust).
The rest was all great specs too.

Time will tell, but I feel confident once one works, its a good one. Maybe EMU has a QC mfg. problem? I spent about 15hrs reading. Seems there is a common problem with the EMU 1820,1820M....and the Audio Dock.

oh well for $160 ... alittle pain to bear for the savings. I'll feel 98% sure after a few power ups and downs and time.
My summary fo articles is IF you get one that has the Christmas tree lights forze ON...or NO SOUND...you've a LEMON. Powering the PC up and down seems to expedite the problem so I may cycle mine numerous times to ensure the setup is "solid".

I can tell you one thing...that pathmix stuff takes a while to figure out.

All I know is the first kit/1820 was so messed the Patchmix didn't even have the selections in the drop down list?
What was the problem I don't know?

But the second 1820 loaded up and there's all kinds of stuff to select from in Patchmix that wasn't in the defective 1820.

I can actually follow the SOS articles, and the link BigWillz posted, and other procedural posts.. now it makes sense because it's all there.

Yeah, this second one was a breeze.

I haven't adventured much yet with the Patchmix routing and stuff.
But I'm a home recording, no customers...so I just want this to be fairly invisible interface with a great sound. $160 and the software too not a bad deal if there's no issues.

I've powered up/down several times and haven't got it to fail yet...I think its good to go.
