Hi
I'm totally new to the whole home recording thing. I have a EMU1212M pci card, a Behringer ADA8000, and i'm using cubase LE.
I cant get my head around Patchmix DSP at all. I'm a total novice!
I need help setting up the soundcard/patchmix software. I have conectted the ADA 8000 to the soundcard using the appropriate adat/toslink lead. What do i do next to enable me to record simultaneous tracks?
I'm really not up on jargon etc so if someone would be kind enough to give me some guidance i'd be really grateful. I also have a copy of cakewalk pro audio 9 installed if that would work better than cubase. Basiclly a just want to multi track guitar, bass, percusion, and two vocals.
Many thanks... and sorry to sound like such a dumb ass.

I can help a little. I've had Patchmix for sometime but once I got it working I don't do much else. There's 100 different setups but I only leave mine on one for multi-tracking.

I actually have grown to really like it.

Patchmix is like a mixing board, with a couple new channels related to the pc, and has ability to add a lot if effects in each strip.

First you have "session" to select. It probably defaults to your multitracking setup. But you can check it out by clicking on the folder at the top right.
Once you see the Sessions appear, you can select one. I use Product Default, on the older version PAtchmix it actually called it Multi-Track....
It asks for your choice, I leave mine at 44.1 khz and hit "ok".

So now you have a screen of channels....like a mixing board.

If you play any MP3 off your pc, You'll see the WAVES channel meters moving. (Output for anything you play in your pc. You can hit M for mute, etc..

Your DOCK and inputs are like the input to the mixing board. So if you plug a guitar or mic or whatever into your pc....you should see meter movements on your channel.

The lower right is the master send/ volume. The blue block to the left is where you can drag and drop effects on the main out bus. Like a limiter, or whatever you want. Its easy to put a effects in there.
Select "Effects" and from the list drag and drop one into one of the blue boxes....its similar to the rack mount stuff/ chain. You can right click on a blue box, and delete it or insert it etc...

Thats a basic concept. IMO its a mixing board. All the tracking and stuff is all in the Cubase or whatever your using.

Before recording you should have good metering= gains setup on the PATCHMIX.

Then go to your recording-software and track something. when you play it back your Patchmix should show a Waves playing.

another cool feature is on your dock/or input mixing board /channels in Patchmix,

you can put the effects, insert, above the SEND , and the effects get recorded with the effects, or if you place SEND on top, and insert effects below Send, you monitor with effects but the dry signal goes to the track.

pretty slick. no cables needed!
