Hi , I know that almost EVERYBODY uses celestions (esp the vintage 30's), and thats why I want to stay away from them. However, I heard the the Eminence legend v12's are supposed to sound like them. I'm looking for a similar sound to the 30's. So how do the Eminence drivers stack up to the celestion ones?

clarity

oh, would I get the same clarity from eminence driver as i would with celestions?

I am a little confused. You want to stay away from the Vintage 30's cause "everyone" uses them, but you want a speaker that sounds like them? Did I miss sumptin' ?

no offense dude but your comment is pretty stupid. you do not want to sound like the vintage 30's... you want to sound like a cheaper ripp-off of that speaker???

that's plain dumb.

guhlenn:rolleyes:

ps eminence are not that great in general. electro vice are a good choice if you dislike celestions.

eminence are horrible dude.

Get those EV 12" guitar speakers. They're pricey (about $200 ea.) But they put those in Mesa Cabs. They sound great.

I dunno...
i'd stay with the GREEN if I where you.

The speakers have a little to do with your sound, but not nearly so much as your brain, fingers, soul, guitar(s) and amplifier(s).

EVs are pretty tight sounding, if you want speakers that 'breathe' a little more, Celestions will do it for you.

Eminence are what you buy if you can't afford anything better.

I don't know if I agree with that, Foo. I agree with your point about brain, fingers, soul, but I'd say that the your speaker(s) has as much to do with your sound as your guitar and amp. I think it's reductive to say that tone stops at the amp output.

I have an older solid state Laney that came with a stock celestion. Through a coupe years of abuse, I blew it. So I plugged into an eminence 1x12 cab. The sound that had been tight and punchy turned quite flabby and undefined. Blame it on cabinet construction and/or speaker (both were sealed back), but the change was drastic--point being that the change came after the amplifier's output.

Does anyone still have that link to the page with all the speaker manufacturer's codes?

Eminence, BTW, are not all THAT bad - they're in all the Fenders I see, including the high-priced ones.

this is why I hate the reissue twin reverbs. They sound horrible with those speakers...yes, they're loud, but they loud like crap.

Yeah, lazyboy, you're probably right. I agree that speakers do have something to do with the sound (as I said) - maybe I should be more specific.

If you run a Roland JC-120 through a 2 X12 cab, it's going to sound a lot different than a Boogie Mk IV through the same cabinet.
Poor speakers will sound like crap whatever you run through them.

I guess the point I was trying to make (and didn't) is that a great player is going to sound great through whatever he's playing, and that the gear he's using is only a tiny part of it.

Once saw Robben Ford playing his 335 through a thrashed Lab Series with stock (read: crappy) speakers. He was great!
