Have you tried switching the order of the two machines? Sounds like the Master machine is having some playback/clock issues based around the tape transport. If that was to happen, the Slave machine would suffer too! Try switching the two machines and see if it still does it. If only the second machine is freaking out, you know it is that machines transport, and you should have that looked at by a Tascam certified repair shop. If both of them are still doing that, well, have BOTH machines checked out.

We have the hdr24 at the studio i work at.. Its awesome, sounds great. Wish editiing was a little easier though

thanks for all the input and help guys! this is what happened, after i posted the thread, i went back at it to try and figure it all out and i hit play and everything worked just fine. dont ask cause i dont know. it was like nothing had happened. very strange. well since i have been looking at getting that alesis hd24 i think i might do it sooner now. it was like something from the x-files.

i am begining to think it is the tapes. this is very strange. i have been playing different sets of tapes and some work perfectly and some wrok as described throughout this thread. i would play one tape in one 38 and as soon as it screwed up i would note the time on the counter, than i played it on the other 38 and it happened at the same spot so that tells me this is not random.
is it possable that the tapes could get wiped out? in my house it is very dry and it is winter here to so there is a lot of static in the carpets. i keep the tapes in a box on the carpet near the power supply. mabye it was them being to close to the power supply?
