thinking about firing an engineer?? I'm sorry... In a rowdy mood tonight.

This is the next level above great. Your synths sound fantastic. You don't need home reccor advice...

A+:)

As it's thematically based I can accept the prettier stuff. As I progressed through it didn't seem as distracting as at 1st. Perhaps a gradual introduction of the glistening gems would avoid that 1st impression. Nope - I listened back - the issue is simply that when the violin comes in all else seems to be unimportant. The intro is sparse & dark & very bloody good. I'm a dill - that's all. The bridge to the violin passage with the swell & then drop to quieter for a few moments work really well - sometimes - in some spots the tinkles get a little Starwars (sorry - that was the iimpression in h/phones - it's much, much less so through speakers) but otherwise quite restrained.
I'm stoked & stroked by the BEAUTIFUL string line you played - I could have taken it and the sparser Tangerine Dream Krautrock apects & been satisfied.

Knda far out, spacey intro...pretty interesting. Very nice violin sound...a lot of depth to it. very nice man....sounds most excellent.

The tinkling bells don't take too well to the .mp3 format (little harsh). The Soundclick player is probably partially to blame also. That won't matter on a CD where the fidelity is better. Cymbals tend to have that same problem in other's recordings. The arrangement is great, divided nicely into two main sections. Lots of cool layers to the keyboards, and nice tone on the violin. Playing is outstanding as always...

:D:):D:)

Great, as we all expected. I especially liked the non-traditional harmonization. More....more...

Mix sounded good to me.I say that because I was able to fully focus on the content and emotion of the song.
Very moving,evocative piece David.
At first listen I was not that crazy about the portamento bit that ended the introduction, also the tinkles that permeate the song seemed distracting.
However at 2nd and 3rd listen I felt a counterpoint between the bells and violin.Like industry and nature.
Great Job!

David you could totally have done the music for the X files. Which you probably wont take as a compliment, but it was meant as one. I'm liking that alot!

I have no need for the temporal ambiguity/fragility of modern parlancegolden arches.
I like this a lot!

Thanks for the comments fellas, I appreciate it a lot.

Definitely a compliment. I watch it every nite at 2.

Thanks. I have my eye on that, I did a slight cut already. I may do more.

This is ...... what's the word.... wait.... right there.... beautiful.

The entire composition/arrangement is super. The violin is jawdropping good. The back synths are really good. You must share info on those. Where to get those synths. What's the sequencers used if you used them. Any sounds fonts?

Sounds great...that is one of my favorite pieces around the holidays and the twist on it was appreciated.

Thanks Bubba:cool: Thanks Acoustic!

The synth is a Korg X50, $699:cool: There is no sequencing on this, everything is recorded live to audio. When the rhythmic bells come in (when the violin starts) I am just playing chords with an arpeggiator on.

This was written when my friend was dying last May, I recorded the violin solo the night he died. The album is a disguised Mass in his honor. There arent many tracks on this, maybe 7.

Beautiful. There's nothing to balk at here because everything is doing what it needs to do. Nice and spacy and somber.

Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to hear about your friend.

the second section with the violin is very moving ...but the first intro to my ears sounds like padding.

also the twinkly bell type effect seems to move from distracting at the begining to perfect as the track settles in to the violin.

in fact that effect kept making me think of something that jean micheal jarre might do.

the track would stand on its own if it was a simpler piece based on the second half but as an excerise in say film soundtrack it might well be fine.

that slew type effect at the beggining also sounds a tad cheesy.

the mix itself....sounds excellent.

This is beautiful. At first I though that, in the intro, the reverb (or sustain) of some of the chords sounded dissident, depending on how they blended with the next chord. But by the end of the intro, it just gave it a spaciness that worked fine.

The violin is awesome, for sure. I hear what Ido's saying about some of the bells, but in a hi-fi recording that shouldn't be a problem. I had trouble listening for anything mix-wise because I was enjoying the music too much.

thanks for listening Incanus, eyema, zazz, Rami.

the track would stand on its own

The track is definitely an "album" track, and probably will work best in that context. By itself the track is a bit strange, as a segnebt in an album it makes a little more sense.

I'm listening to this without reading what anyone else has posted...

I've always loved your work. It's so cool how you can layer those things and still give everything its own space. This is the kind of mixing I want to get to.

As far as the piece goes, it's somber without being depressing.

I'm sorry Dave, I can't offer any mix advice because I can't find anything about it that I would do different. Like I said, your work is a benchmark for me... :o

This is excellent David, in the intro the dynamics and what sounds like alternating swelling synths fill up the soundscape real nice. The violin entrance is just great, good lead in and change. Then the violin melodies and writing keep the tune and mood going nicely. Great work, enjoyed it much :D
