I was looking at the Eleven Rack with the protools 8 LE interface.
I'm also looking at Ni guitar rig 4, buy an m-audio, presonus or whatever soundcard with Reaper for about the same price range.

My big question is the guitar sound. Does guitar rig sound as good as the eleven rack for rock and heavy sounds? It seems to have lots of options!

I think guitar rig will sound just as good. The big thing though is that it is quite a cpu hog, so running your DAW and Guitar rig can be hard for a mediocre computer. You need a smokin machine. The elevan rack takes the guitar processing out of your computer and all the processing is done on the rack. If the price is the same, I would prefer the outboard processing. That said, you should be able to get a decent interface, a decent guitar sim and reaper or another DAW that comes with the interface for a lot less than the Elevan Rack.

My pc should be enough... I hope..

Ok, Guitar Rig 4 is Native-Instruments....everything by NI is in my opinion great. ..

...Including GR4 - its the bees knees and I tried em all. It sounds good and the GUI is very intuitive and intelligently laid out.

Native Instruments have the Audio Kontrol 1 USB2.0 interface . Up until recently they offered it with free GR4 Pro redeemable through a coded voucher in the packaging. While they have a new offer on their website ( GR4 Essential instead of GR4 Pro ), they still do redeem old stock that contains that promotion. So if you can find one anywhere, that may be up your alley. You can buy it free shipping from the NI site or find it new on Ebay for around $199 plus shipping.

I can get a super heavy sound in GR4 easily but they also offer Rammfire as a convenient go to.

Your computer is a monster, it will cope just fine. ;)

Reaper is also an intelligent choice, its amazing.

So many possibilities!
At first i was looking at the Eleven Rack because I wanted to use it live.
Then I decided to choose the best options possible for my home recordings and go with the Axe-FX later (next summer) for live stuff and more otions in guitar sounds at home!

I don't need 8 or 10 inputs because I'll be tracking instruments one at the time.
And for drums we'll be using a Roland V-drum. So right now I'm looking for a small portable USB or firewire sound card with great mic preamps (for Shure SM7b) with midi.

Another option if you want great recording, live capabilities and outboard unit. I use a Roland VG-99 and love this thing. The sounds you can get are endless. Pricey though.

I don't really like the guitar sounds I've heard from the Roland site (patches on the forum).
I'm shooting for the Axe -fx later this year anyway! (decided this yesterday :P)
So I'll buy a good firewire or usb 2.0 card, Golden Age Project PRE-73 and a shure SM7b to start.
