Hello,

In my previous post inquiring about inexpensive vocal mics (which turned into a fight over spam, thanks a lot guys), one mic that was mentioned before the thread degenerated into pissing was the Electrovoice RE-16.

I'd like to get some additional opinions on the RE-16 as far as using it for a vocal mic for home studio use for synthpop music. Right now I'm using a CAD 22, which seems to introduce some harsh sibilance into the sound. Before that I was using a Zeron (has anyone even heard of them? Apparently made by Crate but discontinued over 10 years ago) but it just sounded kinda dull.

I see two of these available on eBay right now, a used one for $65, and a NOS item for $100. Are these good prices, and what is the most I would want to pay for these?

I think they go for around $250 new. That mic is somewhat of a one trick pony and is mainly used for spoken voice. I havent tried one for vocals so I cant really say. When it comes to dynamics for vocals the SM58 and Sennheiser 441 are probably the best bet.

I would recomend a condensor first. Something like the MXL 67 or 2003, SP C1. Those are probably the mics that caused the spam argument.

THIS IS AN EDIT-
I was thinking of the RE20, nevermind ;)
