Recording Modus Operandi
I didn't know where to post this but this place seemed logical.

I'm exposed to computer systems 10-12 hours a day and have narrowed down the cause of a high pitch ringing in my ears to the hard drives and fans in computers and fans in heating/air conditioning units.

The accumulation of noise exposure has caused my ears and everyone else's in an office where I work to have this high pitch sqeal.

I've been reading about it alot over the net and it's not limited to peeps I know, as a matter of fact it is quite widespread and getting worse.

I had an audiologist check me out and he says my cochlea is constantly stimulated like a muscle that won't relax.

To deal with it I've started using ear plugs and closed headsets and I've started having periods of silence again (what a freakin relief! silence is golden!)

Now since I can identify the pitch I find it is being caused by the hard drives and fans from computers and fans in heating/air conditioning units.

NOTE OF CAUTION! Don't wait, protect them now!!!

It might be office fluorescent lights. They often hum at a high pitch frequency when they come to the end of their life cycle, or are broken.

Flourescent lights are a possibility for sure and there's plenty where I work that die often. I don't have any at home though and I get it bad there too.

A few people have suggested cell phone towers and just power lines. I live near a hydroelectric plant and there's also towers around home and work.

It's most likely a combination of things but I'm 99% sure it's electrical.

damn, sounds like you are surrounded by a shitstorm of bad-for-your-ear-ness
