Greetings,

I was given an old 1950's EV mic. It's a ribbon EV V-1 mic. It uses a different kind of cable (not XLR). What kind of cable does it use? I want to use it to record into my DAW.

Gracias,

Ale

You probably need an Amphenol on the mic end and an XLR on the other.

Switchcraft Screw-On Microphone Connector

Just to add to what RRuskin's said...

The particular connector i have for my V-1 was made by Switchcraft, but i bet Amphenol made them too. They are sometimes called harp mic connectors since they were used on a bunch of the old microphones favored by harmonica players. Here's the exact one i have:

You can make an adapter cable with a bit of scrap microphone cable and a male XLR connector. I followed the wiring diagram from this article (see example 17):

http://www.rane.com/note110.html

1. Connect the center post of the harp plug to the XLR pin 2.
2. Connect the shield (springy thing) of the harp plug to XLR pin 3.
3. Leave the shield of the mic cable disconnected on the harp plug end, and connect it to XLR pin 1 at the other end.

I hope this helps a bit. The V-1's are fun old ribbon mics. I use mine on guitar amps from time to time when i wanna dirty-things-up a little.
