Electro Voice RE20 as a stage mic?

For Sure! I like the re20 immensely for recording. It's just kinda of expensive for a live Club show... depending on the level of your band and such. You can bring any mic you want to a gig and tell the soundman your using this mic. But if you don't have your own soundman, I doubt bringing a RE20 to the gig is going to make any difference than the standard Sm58/57.

Yeah, you for sure do not want to use an EV RE20 if your in a thrash metal band ...but if you are in a tame and quality band why not.

Overkill for live work.

Great kick mic. Great cab mic.

Both can be accomplished for 1/3 the cost.

It's a beast in the studio tho, and one of my absolute must haves.

after pricing this on ebay, I see why its too expencive, I think a traditional ole sm58 will suffice

There's no reason you can't use one. It'll sound great, it'll reject feedback better than a lot of so-called "stage" mics, contrary to some above suppositions it's about as indestructable as a microphone can possibly be...

The reason most folks don't use one are simply because A) it's huge, and so covers up the face of the talent (sic), and B) you can't grab it for use as a handheld mic because you'll cover up the Variable-D ports and turn it into a raging feedback generator (aka, an omnidirectional mic).

I once cavalierly put an RE20 up as the lead vocal mic for an R&B diva some 30-odd years ago. Ms. All-That took one look during soundcheck and announced "I am not singing into that thing!"
