how many people here besides me know where the melody @1:40 until 2:02 comes from? that was a surprise! very cool.. I think you definitely needed a J-station.. it really sounds like a sick guitar player at times.. looking forward to your new sounds.

how's the regular/clean violin sound? no editing? how were you changing programs while playing? or did you just grab some different takes and put them together?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very impressive!I have always thought that the violin would be an interesting Blues instrument.Great variation of sounds you are getting there, would you care to try some of them out on a boring 1-4-5 blues tune with me?

I only liked a couple of those distorted Johnson-tones. But the clean was VERY NICE. As in that Bach section.

Gave me flashbacks to NAMM!!

I wanna hear ya find the right "Johnson Tone" and cover those Jerry Goodman lines on the Mahavishnu Orchestra's Inner Mounting Flame album. Then go back and overdub John, Ian and Rick.

We've got some talent on this board that will step forward and fill in for Billy with a live set of drums.

YOWSA!

Do we call you Davidk or, Eddie Van Lifeson????

That was some wicked playing there!!

Some of the sounds were a little grating on the ears but, as you were experimenting, I think we will forgive you.

The last time I heard distortion on a violin was Jean Luc Ponte on an old Zappa recording from the early 70's.

Some very talented shit there, Dave! And I mean shit in a good way!!

Do you have a band that you play in?

Are there other songs you have with accompaniment?

Cheers! :)

dude. it souds pretty darn good

weird...kinda bastard..yet awesome

The whole tune is gonna show up here soon, with special guest AlChuck on guitar. AlChuck and myself also have a Zappa tune, but it didnt work on my acoustic, so I am learning my electric now; be prepared to be blown away:cool:

A unique electric guitar, (strat-like), lot of distance in this, can be a great verse accompanment. Eastern flavor. Initial catch of bow on string noticable but not overwhelming, a little 'click', but not 'plectrish'. Great high end sustain and decay.

00:10
A way cool strat with a little Les Paul flavor, bridge position stratish, and even has 'plectra' sounds. More of a 'front' sound.

00:31
Mendelsohn at some wierd moldy grains, and he ate a lot of 'em and shared them with you. The Arcopeggiated Arpeggios sound awesome here, but I like 'em better on the sound that just preceeded, the preceeding sound had more seperation but you could introduce some Sautille' in the third sound here, to gather more seperation, and that fuzz and all that whack is just great.

00:42
I'm thinking Tom and Jerry, and you are the mouse ?

00:51
Uh-oh, Tom caught Jerry ... will he eat him ? This is a 'front' or solo sound. Brilliant biting high with body, almost aggravating.
Bottom end talking.

01:20
Badass Blues guitar sound here. Almost like some tenor gravel blues singer. Clean this up and you will approach a 'Hendrixian' ... ahhh viola ....
The chromatic gliss double stop that finishes here is badass, extremely unique. This is Blues.

01:40
FAwKiNG metal head - Glamrock - Tom Sawyer ! :D
Good accompanier for Verse punches and working into choruses ...
Decent leader or 'fronting' sound. But very litte seperation in slurred runs, would be good for Sautille'

02:16
GET BACH JAQUES !
Very nice, soundtrack type of electric violin ... PBS !
Nice, very pleasant bottom end on this one.

02:38
Hey, change the channel back dode ! That one was ok ... that's the good front man lead tone for 'whack'
Hawnkin' !

02:44
WHEW ! , this is the shit for lead !, I'm liking this.
Lot's of presence, sustain, balance.

03:05
Good for choruses, good lead, but not a lot of seperation.
Great for double-stop gliss ascending, power chords, PARALLEL FIFTHS ... beyowtch :D

Man, and back to the beginning ... whew ... kewl

Ok now, you owe me some information.

What give on the technical's here dode ?

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys and dolls (Oh wait, we dont have any steenking gals).

I play with a lot of bands. I play with a band called Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which is getting big. I play with Mannheim Steamroller a lot, I have played with a lot of bands. I am the solo violinist on a bunch of tunes with REM, like " Shiny happy people" and " Losing my Religion".

As soon as I figure out the J_Station, I will post some actual tunes. I was just fucking with it, Dave

Holy Mother Of Pearl! I can't wait to hear what you're doing on my tune my friend.:D :D :D

What's a dode?:p

No technical information at all. I plugged my violin into the J_station, and started playing. I would play about 15 seconds, then stop and paused recording. I then Turned to a different preset, resumed recording.

When I was done, I edited out the pauses to make it shorter.

You should get one Pat, $99 brand spankin new:cool:

The playing sounded very guitar like. Most of the sounds I liked. A couple of them I would describe as "scratchy" and didn't sound all that terrific. But mostly, it was cool.
