Hi, when i record using my Edroil FA66 firewire sound card into my Acer M3910 using soundforge on windows 7 64bit it picks up spikes when the kick drum plays or any loud part of the recording here is an example soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/problem-new/s-Wcuuk, i have tried plugging everything out that was on the same circuit except the soundcard and pc obviously, i also plugged out my Graphics card to see if this would help but i still get the same problem so i decided to get a new firewire card to see if that was the problem but same problem again, i have a acer aspire 5735 laptop with the same software as on desktop as a back up and i dont get this problem using the laptop so that eliminates the soundcard been the issue,

Has anyone any ideas as to where my problem could lie

Thanks,

Jay

PS: This happened all of a sudden i never had this problem before with the same set up

TBH Jay I cannot hear or see ANY spike in there!

I have recorded the sequence to Samplitude and expanded the ***T out of it and it looks just like a kick track everdo to me?

Dave.

I dont understand how you can't hear that noise in that recording, you can hear it on every kickdrum its sounds like crackling,

You could always turn down the level going into the card......

Nope, sorry.

There's like a half or three quarters of a second of static' ticks on (or after actually) each kick hit-- but only in my left channel.

doesn't strike me as 'overload or clipping.. (and it's after the peak' of the hits

A come on mate seriously (lol), of course i have checked the volume, my set up is a Pioneer DJM 800 and set of Technics 1210s thats what i used to record that clip, but it dont matter what i have connected to the card i still get the same problem eg, mic, drum machine and synths,i have the master output running into my soundcard using high quality XLR leads to connect, i then have the card connected using a mini firewire to firewire 400 cabel, the reason i done this aswell is i did have a firewire 400 to firewire 400 cabel connecting the soundcard to the pc but from what i have read that carrys electricity to power the card itself but i use the power suply that came with card to power it so i changed the lead to see if that would resolved my problem but it didn't

Nope, sorry.Dave.

I will upload another sample later today when im back it the studio and ill do it at different volume's so you can hear that it gets picked up when at a very low volume aswell

I bet his DAW output is too hot......

Im recording into Soundforge

I didn't get the link to work...

Im not aloud post links untill i have 10 posts only new to this forum but here it is as text soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/problem-new/s-Wcuuk

Yes mate this is exactly the problem i know its not overload or clipping i have been recording sample's from various different devices for years and thats the 1st thing i would always check, i really think its something to do with the pc i haven't noticed that it only comes out the left channel i will double check this when im back in the studio later today, its sounds more like a problem inside the desktop its self and if you listen closely it dont sound like clipping it sounds more digital rather than it been distorted, im handy enough a pc repair aswell so have tried driver updates and changing the firewire card but still the same problem and as i said in my orginal post i have the very same set up on a laptop all i do is plug the soundcard into my laptop load up soundforge hit record and i have no problem's

This is what I'm hearing. Right channel only on my setup.
Yo shiz be wired wrong, brau!

I hear it over here. Irritating crackly almost completely on the left side, on or slightly after each kick hit.

It's hard to say what the problem is, OP. It's just down to you to do some detective work.
Is it present in the original sample? I presume it's a sample.

If it's an acoustic recording then I guess something is touching the drum head or something like that.
If it's not present on the raw recording then check your plugins and gain stages.

I chased down an irritating noise only to find that the 'analog' option on some waves plugins actually translates to 'make irritating noise'.

could it be as simple as a wire from the kick mic that makes static when jiggled ..... by the kick?

The kick was center wasn't it? Noise is hard to one side..
'Talking through monitors'? I was on phones, went hmm, before I say, yep cord is dangling on my left.
Now, mabe I should check akg 240m's, which side is the cord on..?

Yes the kick drum is center i have another clip to share, here is a 4 to the floor kick drum sampled from a Korg Electribe running into a Pioneer DJM600 then into my Edirol FA66 connected via firewire and recorded using soundforge soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/to-the-floor-kick-problem

Its not a live recording im sampling from external gear here is another sample soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/problem-new-2/s-cSzQd

I hear it on both channels i have another recording this is just bass soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/bass-problem/s-V5z4G i still get the same problem but if you listen to this sample soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/bass-n-hat-problem/s-Kl1aS i have an effect loop at the start which you can hear the spikes in then i have a hi-hat loop playing and you cant hear the spikes so it seems like it only happens when theres low frequency's

Yes this is the problem but im getting it both channels here is another example soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/problem-new-2/s-cSzQd

Can anyone help me out with this i dont know what to do next im stuck this is the best example i have soundcloud.com/jayhatchell/problem-new-2/s-cSzQd you can hear the spikes when the kickdrum plays but when the clap or hi-hat plays it don't get effected im lost

Without going back through the whole thread, have you tried Edirol support?

Sounds like a Virus, or Adware, might need to reformat or need a new computer.
