Does anyone run their electric guitars DI into a PA system? I have a PA with 2 JBL eons and will expand it to four later on. Right now I DI my acoustic into an Avalon U5.

I'm planning on getting something like the black Ibanez JEM guitar in a few months, and I want to research everything beforehand so I know what I'm getting myself into. How would the guitar sound through the Avalon?

I mess around with my friend's Strat which I plug into the Avalon. It's amazingly clean, but I haven't plugged it into anything like a Marshall stack so I have no basis for comparison. Preferably, I would just use the Avalon and then have it go through some effects boxes/pedals before reaching the mixer (I have a TC Electronic M300 and would get a voodoo labs sparkle drive and a distortion pedal). What do you think?

An electric DI in a PA? You won't get a good sound, unless you have a amp modeler in the chain. Even with the stompboxes and avalon in between you'll miss the sound of a guitar made amplifier.

Out of necessity for about 10% of my material I use a strat direct into a PA. Another constriction is having to use the same presets used for the hybrid classical due to the wireless. Although the extra pre in the wireless helps a little, the strat sucks.

Guess I need a pod.

Geez, another piece of equipment to haul around.

Are there any good amp modelers other than the Line 6 Pod? Why is the rack mount version such a rip?

How would having the Pod compare to micing a small amp? The main reason why I don't want a stack is because of the size. Transportation is an issue.

the new PODxt is amazing, and i've heard plenty of good things about the J-Station and Digitech Genesis 3 as well.

my vote is for the PODxt but of course it's also the most expensive look into the J-Station and Genesis 3..do a search on this forum plenty of info =)

Thanks for the replies. I am heavily considering the PODxt now. Do you know if they'll make a rackmount version of the XT like the Pod Pro? I assume the pod pro isn't as good as the XT.
