I want to get electric drums to add to my accoustic set. I want maybe 3 or 4 drum pads... but I don't want to use them as normal pads, I want special affects. Kind of like Danny Carey's electric drums, except I can't find his SDX pads anywhere. SOOOO.. any ideas? I also need something to make them do those special weird sound effects. WHat drum pads? and what... um... weird sound effects thingys???? wutever they are called, I don't know shit about electric drums other than they can sound cool.

If you're just looking for additional sounds, then by all means look for an Alesis DM5 Soundsource. it has tons of great "other" sounds ( I was really digging the Tabla sounds in it) But I hated the actual "drumkit" sounds.

Simmons SDX are super old. You occaisionally see them on E-bay but it's fairly rare.

I would just look for a Dm5 (which has the Simmons sounds in it - plus a ton more) and then learn to build your own pads - it will be a lot cheaper.
Or, look for used Simmons, Roland, or ddrum pads - you can pick them up on E-bay all day long.

Tabla sounds? wud really ehlp me since learning accoustic tabla is really hard for me :-(

You can make your own pads very cheaply.
Look for a used pad to midi convertor like Kat MidiKiti or Roland PM-16(<$100).
Most Roland modules(even keyboard sound canvas modules) have excellent
drum kits and Indian tablas. You can even use a PC or laptop as a sound module once you have pads and a pad to MIDI convertor.
