hi there! im tryng to update my pedal effects for a more warmer analog sound. what i got right now is a BOSS DD-3 and a KORG toneworks A1500G which has worked for me good this time. but im planning of replacing them for a analago pedal but im stucked between the Boss twin pedal Space Echo and the Electro Harmonix Memory man analog. what i want is to make a space like sund of sustain like the on on the interpol, and the rascals guitar (miles kane) some like a retro 60´s dark surfing guitar LOL gahhhh! well any suggestions will e considered

I have an EHMM but mostly use a DL6 for guitars and weird stuff, otherwise just various plugins. The EHMM is pretty noisy.

I think the Ibanez AD-80 is a great analog delay pedal.

But beware, it uses 18 volts for power - two 9 volt batteries. A friend of mine built a custom power supply for me with 12 volts (which is what boss pedal really run on) and 18 volts for the Ibanez (which I no longer have.....damn!!!).
BTW, the power jack pin confiuration is reversed on the Ibanez, relative to Boss.

I had bunches of pedal, including a Memory Man for awhile (while I still had the Ibanez), and I think the Ibanez was the best delay pedal. The EH Memory Man is nowhere near as good, IMO. And Supercreep is right, the MM is REALLY noisy.

Without further delay (pun intended), here it is:

BTW, if you're willing to use a digital device that sounds analog and will produce a bunch of unique sounds, try a Boss SE-50 1/2 rack unit.

Dirt cheap.
Digital but very analog sounding.
The best flanger I have ever heard (especially if you ever use stereo)....warm, gooey, lush.
Excellent phaser and chorus.
Very good reverbs.
True stereo.
The delay has an analog mode, that while not being analog and certainly not the AD-80, sounds better than the EH by miles. The delay has some other semi-radical modes too.

For the $50 to $100 it goes for these days, it is a steal.

so i replied to the other one of this post but it seems this is the one that has taken off.

i have to say that i don't really understand the slagging of the DMM here. it is in my opinion the quintessential pedal type analog delay. and it's definitly it when it comes to modulation delays in my opinion. sure it's a bit noisey but thats part of it's charm i think and the noise isn't enough to really matter most of the time anyway.

i would encourage anyone that has had a bad time with thier DMM to send it off to howard davis and have him align the trim pots for you. these things go out of adjustment over the years and he will get right back to working the way he designed it. he does great work and made mine sound awesome. while it's there it is worthwhile to get his headroom mod done also.

howard davis

here's a song that i recorded recently that has the DMM all over it.

Giving some love to the Deluxe Memory Man as well. Great, versatile pedal. Is it really all that noisy? Of the two initially mentioned, however, I've yet to hear the Space Echo reissue.

yes it does have some noise. even when it is fully tweaked. there's no way to get that kind of delay time out of the chip without the noise. still it's only really noticeable when you play a note and stop so that all you can hear are the repeats.

Understood. Byt I still never considered this a noisy pedal. Like all hissy and sounding like it's blowing off steam, or something. :)

i don't either. guitarists have lived with it this long so EH must be doing something right. really since the noise is only on the repeats its basically a non issue.

mines not going anywhere...noise or no noise

akai headrush
A GREAT delay!
I also have the RE-20 which I like quite a bit and I've retired the Headrush to the studio and the Boss is on my pedal board.
But the Headrush is flat out a better sounding pedal ...... I just didn't want it out in the field anymore since there are some recording things it'll do that nothing else will. Separate outs for four virtual 'heads' is very cool for some effects.
