I have just decorated my Extention room and Have been reading a few threads about sound.

I heard that egg box cartons can help make the room sound more dry.

Is this a load of crap or true ??

Many Thanks ... Smeghead

I've read several threads in the studio building and display forum and most people say they are crap. But don't take my word for it. I suggest you check out taht forum...

Thanks for reply will check it out once kids are gone to bed, Aint got hope in hell when there up !

DO research it, but I'm pretty sure egg cartons won't be of any/much benefit.

Unless you leave the eggs in them...
but that gets pretty stinky in a years time...:D

Put a egg carton over your ear and see how much difference you hear. They're pretty much transparent to sound.

I'll allow that it's possible that egg cartons would diffuse high frequencies in a pleasing manner. But that's usually the least of problems in an otherwise untreated room, and I'd feel pretty silly sitting in an egg carton room.

Most of the people we get on the Studio Building board think that egg cartons work for soundproofing, which is extremely untrue.

Use egg cartons for starting pot plants. That's what they're made for. :D

A long time ago back in the day a friend gave me all the egg cartons he was saving up for his studio. He had a ton of them.
I had a little studio at the time in a big walk in closet and I decided to put the egg cartons on the wall because there was no internet back then and nobody to tell me it wasn't going to sound proof anything.
I spent the better part of an afternoon putting these things up and it looked pretty cool when I was done. Much to my surprise my room sounded... well, just like it did before I put up the egg cartons.
If you have the egg cartons and a lot of free time give it a shot.
