What can I do to enhance the pretty raw sound I get on my vocals? Im not worried about the quality of the sound, its clean enough... but I would like to hear what effects you recommend....

I read a lot of people talking about compressing vocals, or changing the EQ... I'm a complete newcomer so can anyone explain these terms or offer general advice and share their experience?

Thanks in advance

Vocal Effects

A compressor will even out the vocal volume level and help it find a place in the mix. (A Compressor is like an automatic gain control) they can be simple or very complex depending on the model you purchase. A good quality compressor will be very useful in any studio.

EQ is a basic function of your mixer, (Treble and bass, mid sweep etc.) I try to record and playback everything with pretty flat (Normal) EQ. Then sometimes enhance guitars, vocals etc with alittle tweek of EQ.

My personal preference is adding a bit of Delay and reverb to vocals, What ever fits the song.

Some delay along with compression is always a plus. Try to avoid the "Reverb" trap. A little is fine but it's easy to over-do it. Depends on the piece.
Good Luck
