Effects on duplicated tracks?

When I duplicate a track and add effects on one, I think the effects appear on both. How do I leave one dry? Thanks

Differentiate Tracks

Don't put the effect on the first track.
Copy the track to a second iteration.
Put the effect on the track you want.
