I have a Marshall TSL 100... I use the amp drive, a boss tu2 tuner, boss chorus, boss dd3 delay, dunlop zack wylde wah, and rocktron banshee talkbox (not in that order)... i have played for years and never used an effects loop on any amp.... i understand it gives me a "true" guitar sound due to the fact that most pedal dont have a full bypass in them... should i go ahead and run the extra cables to use the effects loop? if so, should all the pedals be run through it?? i have heard that anything that creates a gain change should not be run through an amp effects loop and i know that wah pedals do have a small gain change...

Delay & chorus will sound good thru the loop, I'd run the wah, talkbox & tuner thru the front end.

Generally speaking, delays and modulation effects tend to work better in a loop and wahs, O/Ds and distortions are best hitting the front end of the amp.

That being said, there is absolutely nothing "wrong" with using delays and mod effects in front of the amp. It all depends on your rig and what works best for your style and tone. Experiment and see what you like best. I would not recommend wahs and O/Ds in a loop however, though a clean boost or an eq with a gain control can produce some interesting results when you run them in the loop. YMMV

I used to have that amp and it seemed whenever I used the effects loop it affected the tone to the point where I just abandoned the effects or put them before the amp. Maybe it was just an issue with mine, though.

IN GENERAL...

Rackmount FX do better in the FX loop, and floor "stomp box" FX work better up front.

Well is it better to scrap the delay and chorus i have for a rackmount? will it be that much better of a sound?

That kind of depends upon what units you are using. For example, if I had some $$ multi fx I would scrapp the delay and mod pedals as they are inherently noisy and when used up front that noise is amplified throught the signa paht of the amp's front end. Using mod and delay effects in the loop is most sensible and like the others opined the wah etc.. in front. THere are quite a few posts on the relative merits of each, so do a search as this is a popular issue for discussion. One caveat: do what yours ears like. This situation and its variations won't harm your amp just be careful of your levels in the loop. PS I use a DSL 100 with time based efx (delay, mod) in loop most of the time. :)

If I could maintain a Roland Space Echo and find somewhere to put it on stage, you can bet I would melt my DD3 and turn it into an ornament ;)
