Has anyone out there tried to send there effects loop send directly into their sound card line in. I know the effects loop send isn't exactly line-level, but my question is this: If I very gradually bring up the gain should I be able to use my effects loop send as a poor man's mixer? Also, even if you haven't tried it does anyone know the max voltage that a line-in device expects and what voltage it can typically tolerate without badness happening.

Are you talking about the effects send on a mixer or guitar amp? Either way it should work.

unsure of meaning

i am not sure what you mean by poor mans mixer??

anyways, you can take a "line out" and go to your sound card. You could also take an "effects send" and take it to your sound card.

just a note about the effects send/receive : if it is on one jack, it is probably a trs jack. if you plug the regular 1/4 cord in all the way, it will kill the sound coming out of the amp. but if you plug it on only 1/2 way, till you feel the first click, you will still get sound out of your amp.

theoretically, now, you could use the line out/return of the sound card and go into the effects receive of the same jack and amp, and complet the circuit to hear what you recorded.

be aware though, of a thing called latency. this is a delay caused by the time it takes the sound card and computer to process the signal and return it to the output jacks.

good luck and happy learing
