I play guitar in a jazz trio that I've been recording on gigs. I've come up with some really nice sounding recordings that I'd like to transfer to CD. The way that I've recorded was to record an entire set as 1 "song" in order to minimize my involvement with the recorder while playing.

My initial plan was to import the files into my computer and use audacity to edit out the unwanted space between songs. I was unable to make this work as my computer runs windows vista which I don't believe is compatible with the Fostex.

I've been having a hard time with figuring out what to do. The manual for this machine seems really hard to follow once you get beyond the basic functions.

I'm essentially trying to take a 60 minute "song" and breaking it into 7 shorter songs so that I can put them on a CD. If that can't be done, Id settle for erasing the space between the individual tunes.

I'm at the point where I can't even tell where to look in the manual for information on doing something like this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There is a "clip Board" that can be used for cut and paste. It is the second Copying/Pasting on P131 of the manual. Using the Locate A and B you can lft your recorded tracks and build up a track (on a spare set of Tracks - for example 15/16) from the set of recordings already made. Just add each "lifted" recording and paste it on to the back of the previous one.
To break up the continuous recording into tracks for the CD see "storing CUE points" in the HD/CD Supplement. p6.

I prefer recording each track for a CD on to a seperate "Song" (there are 99!!) Create the CD and then re-format the hard drive. If you build up Songs on the HD eventually the machine will crash. Deleting songs does not remove them from the disk - it just marks them as "hidden".

The MR 16 is very logical and easy, the Manual is rubbish.
