editing mp3's

i have an mp3 file which is like three hours long...... is there a way to edit parts and make it fit onto a 80min cd????? i have easy cd creator 4 for my burning program....... which i think is supposed to have an edit audio section but doesn't.......
 
If the size of the mp3 in MB is larger than the storing capacity of the CD, then your SOL. You could however cut it in half and put on 2 CD's.
 
how can i do that??? do you know of a free program to get????
 
Change the mp3 back into a wav file, split it in half an then change them back to mp3's.
 
dont change them back..thats useless and will only lose quality.

If you making an audio CD out of them, just use the wavs that u split up to make the audio CD.

So:
using WinAMP, convert MP3 to WAV.
Use any WAV editor, cut it in half.
Use ur burning program to burn the audio CD, using the WAVs u created.

But, if you don't want to make an audio CD out of it, then u will have to convert back to MP3.

I just dont know what u wanna do. But, again, if ur making an AUDIO CD...DO NOT convert back to MP3 to burn it.

THere' are some programs, SoundForge I believe, u can edit strait into the MP3. Also, the audio edit program that comes w/ Nero.
by the way, Nero is also a better burning program that EZ CD.

what i did was edit them through nero then i copied to file, as a .mp3 file and then i burned them through easy cd creator 4.... you said not to do this???? but now my ecdc4 is all screwed and it's having trouble read blank cd's....... i hope this isn't because of the editing i was doing........ i was told that it probably wouldnt interfere and that my lens probalby needs cleaning or i need firmware update..... whatever that is...
 
sometimes having 2 or more CD-R(W) burning programs installed intereferes with each other. Try uninstalling one. Cleaning the lens, i'm assuming wouldnt hurt. And only do a firmware update if u know how. Try just uninstalling one of the programs first. then clean lens....all else fails, then try update.

Are you making an audio CD? If you are making an audio, DO NOT convert back to MP3. By converting back to MP3, you risk losing more quality. Just make the audio CD using the WAV. The process should be the same (it is in Nero).

Do you understaind why ur losing more quality?
MP3s are compressed WAVs. One technique encoders use to compress is just cutting off the highs and lows. Have you ever noticed the bass and high end (cymbals) sound off when compared to the original CD(wav)? Thats the reason.
By converting the MP3 into a WAV, you gain no quality. Its the same. So by making an MP3 out of the new WAV, again ur cutting off highs and lows, losing quality.

Again, this is all if u made an audio CD. If ur making data CDs, and u *NEED* the space, then go ahead and reconvert to MP3.
 
i'm makin audio cd's..... every file ive burned before and after this happened were all .mp3 files so i'm sure if that is what it is.... i think i'm gonna reinstall ecdc 4 and if that doesn't work i'll try the firmware update..... do you know where to get this from and how to do it???
 
ok..forget about the MP3 thing. Do as you wish. I say to not re-convert back to mp3.


But as for the update.
Check the brand of burner you have, and go to their website. Look for the model. And they'll have an update there (if there is on). With instructions how to do it. Usually it has to be done in real DOS mode. (ie; boot disk)
 
i was just sayin that all the audio files i got before said .mp3, like files from mp3.com, audiogalaxy, morpheus, etc etc, so when i used nero's wave editor and saved i changed it to .mp3 and not wav or .vqf or somethin like that..... and then i burned them on ecdc 4 and after that my cd writer started acting up, i think it could be my lens is shot cause ive burned like 200-400 cd's or it could be dirty... i don't have a cd to reinstall ecdc 4 so i'm not sure really what to do..???...???..??...?? do you think playing these converted cd's in home/ car cd players would affect them?? i don't really understand the whole mp3/stream/wav and what can and can't be burned as audio/data, etc...

ur burner shouldnt crap out at only 400 CDs...i've burned A LOT more than that, and have had no problems.

it used to be like this:
before MP3s were as big as they are now (they were around, just no napster etc)

You'd have to convert the MP3 to WAV to burn it as an audio CD.
Now, since MP3s are mainstream. Burning programs (EZCD, Nero, etc) ...do that on the fly, automatically. So u can tell it to make an audio CD out of an mp3. It'll then convert it to WAV while its burning as audio. :) So MP3s/WAVs can be made into an audio CD.
I don't know of VQF and other audio formats are like this. though
 
hmmmmmmm, thanks for yer info.... i'm gonna try cleaning the drive with a brush cd (hopefully won't scratch my ish)... if that doesnt work i'll try reinstalling, if that doesnt work, then i don't know.... maybe take it to a professional....... the weird thing is is that im getting memorex 1x-16x to work and not verbatim 1x-32x..... but i only get it to work once and it's right after i turn on computer after it was off for a while..... so i dont know
 
You can use "DVDCutter Stream and Mp3CDWav Converter" which provides the features of cutting and Merging mp3 files.

After reinstalling your software run scandisc and defrag sometimes this helps. Also as mentioned before you have to convert this humongus mp3 file to .wav but you should take note that the file can increase 12 times its original size and make sure you have the disc space. When useing your adaptec to record a mp3 file you are actually streaming it to disc converting it to .cda in the process. Mainstream programs to do this are Musicmatch jukebox, real jukebox. Winamp and probably your adaptec software if you set it up to save to file first and you should be able to do that with no disc in your burner. Some helpful info .wav is not a format that can be played on most cd players if you save it as data it will be good for only the newest of players and your computer. The files you record as music are changed to .cda the format, cd players have a decoder for this format. When mp3 files are made peak levels on both ends are randomly thrown out or reduced in quality as a point made converting them back will result in more music loss and most decoders do not damage the original file just decode it and make a new one in .wav the type that most editing software can read.
