Ok im kinda new at editing vocals.. and at posting thread so sorry if i do it wrong....

Im using Abobe Audition 3

When i Edit i record the hole verse 3 times then after that i record like 2-3 words n each bar basically what i wont to stand out a lil more then i do adlibs like yea and stuff.. after that i start to edit. first I Bounce my first 3 voice overs onto on track then i go to edit I then hi light the part b4 the vocals start then go to noise reduction then capture profile then select the hole clip and click OK. after than I go to dynamic processing then go to smooth vocal then click OK then after that i just go to normalize 65 then click OK. Then after that I go back to the Multittrack then turn up the adlibs and the other voice over. My quolity aint the worse but i wont it to have a more official sound.

what i need to do

1. If recorded in any remotely normal way (even with the cheapest interface and equipment) then you shouldn't need noise reduction. Stop using this.
3. Stop bouncing them to one track. Keep them seperate so you can tweak each of them individually.
2. Stop using presets on the compressor. Everything needs different settings so presets don't cut it. That's not to say you can't use the preset as a starting point, then tweak to suit.
3. Don't normalise things. All it does is gain or cut so the peaks of the track lie at a specific point. It does nothing to the dynamics. Just adjust your levels on the tracks.

what he said.....if you dont know why you are doing what you are doing....then dont do it... When I record Rappers....I typically record the main vocal 3 times. the first one will be in the center and the loudest, the other 2 will be equal volume to each other but much lower than the first, and usually panned left and right. Then Ill record the adlibs. I usually send the 2 panned tracks and the adlibs to a bus and process together with compression, EQ, and reverb and process the main vocal seperate.

I record 2 vocal tracks then I take one of them and offset it by .020 and it thickens the vocals a bit like a chorus effect. you will have to adjust the levels and I run the offset track with no effects and the main track with a touch of verb and compression. I then do 2 more tracks for add libs and choruses and do the same thing. Keep all the vocal tracks and mix them all down to a mono track to center the vocals and pan the other tracks out some. I know this may sound confusing at first but its just some basic Ideas on how I do vocals with CEP.
