Hi all! I'm a newbie here. Been reading but not posting until now because I can't find an answer to my question.....

Does anyone know how to clip out a section of a track in Sonar 7 or do I need to use a different program to do that? If so, what do I need?

I was using Audacity before and could easily clip and delete and unwanted section but can't figure out how to do that with Sonar.

Thanks for any/all help!

I'm not sure what you mean but if you press T on the keyboard and click on the portion of the track you can right click and then click on split then you can drag out the piece. I'm not sure if this is what you mean but this is how I do it. I believe Sonar 7 has a default setting where the clicks are in sync with the time signature as the track so it will automatically click on the part closest to the beat. I know you can change this setting but I leave it because I always use the metronome. I hope this helps

Thank you! Yes, that worked. I needed to delete a small portion of the track where I messed up.
Again, thank you!!! :)

I'm also a newbie to Sonar. Can someone provide more details and tell me if there is a video about editing wav files in Sonar? You know, cutting and paste bits of the wav as you can do in Ableton. Is this possible? It doesn't appear that it's as easy as in Ableton.

Cutting and pasting is easy in SONAR,especially if you are synched in tempo rather than freewheeling.
The main thing to watch are your snap to properties.I usually set it to a quarter note. It's easier to cut and drag the clip to a spot and the slip edit the clip to the proper size when in place.

To delete a portion all you need to do is make a cut and slip edit the clip back to the proper spot. The audio will remain but not be heard unless you use the apply slip edit command.

Thank you very much. I was sort of getting the hang of slip edit yesterday. I need to check the snap to properties. Question on that though - let's say you import a wav and you're not sure what tempo it is - is there a way to have Sonar figure that out for you?

I made a mistake.:o

Go to Youtube and search for SONAR or check out this thread....

When I comp tracks I like to do multiple takes to one folder, use the mute tool/Ctrl combo and bounce to track(s).I then archive the folder. It's not that I can't do a perfect take,it's just that I can get a good track faster with multiple takes.

Go into your help file and search "tempo".There's probably an extract tempo or other procedure.I'm not at my DAW at the moment otherwise I'd look it up.
There's always the "tap tempo" in the tempo menu that might get you close.

Be aware of the setting in 'Clip Properties' -'Time base- Musical' or Absolute'.
Set to 'Musical, if you have audio in the project and change the tempo their positions (timing) relative to each other will shift. Absolute' lets them keep their places while project tempo is changed.
