hi. i'm going to be running osx (probably 10.2), and logic platinum. does anyone know which one of these usb devices functions better with osx 10.2 (or 10.1 for that matter)?

(thanks)

does anyone know what "basic mode" in the ua-5 is? i read that the ua-5 will only work in basic mode with osx...does it mean not-96khz? because i'm just interested in 24-bit/48khz...

get the edirol

Hi there,

check out my post on the Duo if it helps you decide...it's in this forum a few days more recent.

I dont know what kind of platform you'll be running, but if it's Cubase/VST avoid M-Audio like the plague

I had the M-Audio Duo with Windows XP running Cakewalk DirectX.

i sold it on ebay. the pre-amp on the sucker sounds pretty darn good, but the drivers were sh*t. they just came out with new drivers so maybe it works correctly now.

i have the tascam us-428 and haven't had any problems yet.

yeah, that's exactly what i thought----really nice pre's, problems with the drivers...

How's the 428 on latency?

i haven't had a problem with latency because the 428 can monitor the incoming signal before sending it to the laptop while also playing back the previously recorded tracks.

this is a feature that the M-Audio Duo can not do. it can not direct-monitor while at the same time playing back previously recorded material. you have to go throught the laptop and back out to the Duo to monitor, and that's a latency issue.
