Hey, i'm looking at getting the Edirol UA-25 with Sonar LE included, price comes to 289.00 +tax in Canadian Funds. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of or used this product before? Any thoughts or better ideas?

The reason why this seems good to me is i can plug my cheap psr-75 into the Midi port on the UA-25 which will allow me to make that a midi controller, plus it has 2 xlr/quarter inch inputs with phantom power, plus its usb bus powered. It seems like a versatile rig.

Also i'm wondering about Sonar Le, is this worth my while or should be getting a better software?

Just so you know what i'm trying to accomplish: I'm in a 2 piece unplugged type band, me with vocals and acoustic guitar, and my percussionist playing a variety of percussion intstruments including congas and bongos, shakers etc...

So really as far as recording we aren't getting into too many tracks and so on. I hope this helps you all answer.

Thanks

Not only have I heard of this product, but I used it exclusively for about six months until I upgraded.

I had always used Cool Edit Pro (now called Adobe Audition) for audio editing and multitracking prior to trying that version of Sonar LE. I found Sonar very intuitive, and easy to learn (although reading the help files was a must for some of the finer points).

What I would suggest (and what I think many here might agree with) is that there is often very little difference from DAW to DAW in terms of audio quality and functionality. The only major difference with Sonar LE is that its a somewhat scaled back version of Sonar. You might find that for your applications, it has all the features you need. Being an aspiring professional, I found that I needed more than what LE has to offer.

It sounds like there would be a few options for you in terms of recording. One mic for each performer, one stereo pair micing the overall performance, or two mics for each performer and record your parts seperately.

I found the UA 25 to be a stable, easy to use device offering a full 24 bit word length and a reasonably good (48khz rec/playback) sampling rate.

My only reason for upgrading was that I will be recording a band this month live off the floor and I needed a way to send at least ten mics to my DAW at once. (Incidentally, although I'm in Korea, one of the band members is from Nfld, one is from PEI, and another is from Ontario, as am I.)

Hope this helps.

thats great thanks for the reply...

and i pretty much figured most DAW's are the same but i just wanted some feedback to see if anyone used it. Thanks man. :)

My pleasure. Feel free to shoot a PM my way if you have any further questions. Good luck!
