Does anybody have comments on either unit? I am strongly leaning towards purchasing the edirol but I have yet to hear a biased opinion.

I don't know the Edirol unit, but I have the Layla 24/96, and I think it's a great card. I love it so much I got a second one. I have not had one single problem with it. Finding one might be difficult since that model has been discontinued for the new Layla 3G. Echo will still be supporting the 24/96, so if you can find one cheap, I say grab it!

Apparently, no one "really" knows.
I was told that the 3G has better converters on top of the obvious Mic Pre-amps. The newer one isn't compatible with the laptop card like the older one. Other than that, I don't know since the newer one can be found for a couple hundred dollars less than the newer one. Marketing?

I bit the bullet and purchased the newer one, but it's on backorder until the first week of December at the place I purchased it from (best price by far).

thanks for the reply's, the 3G looks promising but I am going to grab the Edirol and test my luck.

whattaguy: let me know what you think your Layla unit when you receive it. Maybe we could swap notes between the two different peices and see which one shines.

My applications will be mainly with a jazz quartet with trumpet, guitar, drums, and electric bass. Not to mention some high quality mics capturing it all.
