hi,
this card looks to provide my needs. my only concern is that on some other posts ive noticed people saying it cannot be bus powered with a PCMCIA firewire adapter on my laptop. Does this just mean it cannot be powered by the laptop so i will always have to use the 9v powersupply? if so thats fine, i just dont want to find out that for some functions like the phantom power to work, id need a built in firewire card.
thanks,
Rick

If you use the power supply, then the phantom power will work just fine. I too am recently discovering that the pcmcia cards cannot provide power on their own, very depressing. However they do make cards that that can be plugged into the wall, and I am researching some battery options for some of these. But, the way I see it overall is that if you are doing any length of time recording or mixing, then you will have to plug the laptop in eventually anyways, so bus powered wouldn't be that big of a deal at that point. Another thought to consider is that most laptops are set up so that when you are running strickly on the battery, the CPU doesn't work as hard to conserve battery life. This could potentially get in the way of doing any serious audio recording, so you'll end up plugging it in anyways.

Ok thanks a lot for the help, you have put my mind at rest. I really dont mind having to plug in an extra power supply, its beats having to carry my desktop pc around anyway :)
