Anyone have experience with these for a live recording application?

Thanx.

Thanx Chess.

Do/did you own one? I want something to grab outs from the Mackie board and dump into Cubase (or whatever) in a rack-mounted box or laptop. I don't need all the pres that come in the Presonus and others. This looks like the best inexpensive fit for my needs.

Any other suggestions?

i have one and i love it. no frills (no pres, no headphone output), just 12 i/o with great sounding conversion. handy front panel (coarse) level monitoring

I have the Echo Layla 3G which has exactly the same audio quality/converters but different features. I love the sound of this unit. The conversion is top notch and the drivers are rock solid! Audiofire has 192kHz capability though I doubt you'd need that?
Do you definately need firewire? If you have a PCI slot then I'd say go for the 3G. The 3G does not have 192kHz capability but has ADAT I/O so you could add something like a Behringer ADA8000 and have 16 channels?

Thanks Dickie but...too late. I found a used one on eBay yesterday for $400 (hence the question) and jumped on it this morning. 12 channels will be enough to drive me batshit as it is. ;)

that's a nice deal. there was a shootout you can find on Gearslutz between the audiofire12 and much pricier Apogee converters and the results were closer (subjective of course) than you would think.
a nice benefit of the audiofires is that you can daisy chain several of them together w/o need for syncing. you could add a 2, 4, 8 or another 12 on easily. adding a 2, 4, or 8 would give you a headphone jack and s/pdif i/o
