I bought one of these 4 years ago (Lexicon PCM80). Dead mint for 800 US/1200 CDN. First eBay purchase for me. Took 8 weeks to arrive . Has best reverbs I've ever heard - solid and dependable. Expect it to last many many years... Use it all the time. Retail was 2999 US and street was 1999. So I think I got a good deal. They still go for around 650 US and still hold their own out there.

Good to hear! I've got too many eBay success stories to list--and not one failure. Mostly I'm scouring for the cheap and obscure, but there have been a lot of transactions, and I've never been hosed.

A rough list off the top of my head:

Countless guitar parts
4 guitars
A vintage 1944 lap steel
couple of Unidyne III 57's
Furman power conditioners
probably a couple/few other mics
flight cases for mixers, rack gear & mics

and the list goes on...

Whitey, I'm still jealous of your bunch of MD-421's that you got for $100.

I myself have never had an issue with E-bay. I even got my main axe from it. Schecter C-1 Classic shipped with a case for $500. Just bought an M-Audio Oxygen 49 last week too. So far, aside from my ability to play the keyboard (I bought it mostly for plunking out string arrangements and learning to play), I'm satisfied.

Apart from those, I've bought 2 other guitars and an amp, all without problems.

2 EPI Les Pauls which I absolutely adore
a Sansamp Bass driver DI
2 Tannoy monitors (the ones with the 2 speakers and a tweeter each) brand new both for €150
1 EMG 85, 1 EMG 81 for half the store price
1 computer monitor 20"

it's all been good till now.....:D

no problems here.

zero problems with ebay as a buyer or seller. :)

I've bought mics (new & used), power conditioner (new), Firepod (used), Canon Rebel digital camera (new, got a GREAT deal on this plus 10% off ebay coupon:D), 1964 VOX acoustic 6 string, and probably some more stuff that I can't think of.

I check ebay multiple time a day. Right now I'm watching out for a good deal on an Allen & Heath 16 channel mixer. :D

I think you have to be very mindful of the sellers rating on ebay. Check their feedback and make sure that they have a good return policy. I say a very sweet deal on a wireless router, but I didn't buy it because the seller has zero feedback. It might have been legit, but I didn't want to take the chance.

Tons of stuff, most of which I have since resold :o Like 30 microphones, everything in my remote rig . . .

What's left: 5 ranks of organ pipes, an Oz Audio HR-4, a Miles Tech 6 channel power amp for $275--very obscure manufacturer, but an absolutely great amp! Retail was $1100 I think. I still have a few mics left, 520DX, AT3060, 55SH, those were all eBay. A Tascam CD160, still have that. The rack case for my PC and some of the internals. My rackmount UPS. Several instruments; a 29 string harp, cymbals . . .

I soured on eBay as a seller in 2006 once they raised store fees to ridiculous levels. That motivated me to finally create my own website. Thank you eBay! But I still shop there on occasion.

I've only been a buyer, but for the most part it's been good. More than 300 purchases from individual sellers (more transactions than that of course). Music and recording gear have been fine except for one guitar where I had to reverse charges on MC when it was damaged and the Seller was unresponsive ( a lesson here - use paypal and a credit card to pay as it gives you the most options if you have an issue). Other than that, music gear has been good - 50+ mics and lots of rack gear. Cameras have been more hit and miss with actual condition of gear not necessarily as described. Granted they are mechanically more complex, but still. Few problems with jewelry and other stuff - one figurine trashed because of poor packing.

As usual do your due diligence and know the value of what you are buying. I still can't believe that people will pay more than retail for things on e-bay because they are clueless as to the value of the item, but they do it all the time.
