Even when it isn't exactaly the best tone fit for a track it and some of the other RE's really shine in consistency of sound where the distance might be varying. I've gone with the RE20's or 16 for acoustic instruments (guitars for example) and vocals live for that reason.
And the RE20 is one that does real well for getting a decent clean vocal right up on the mic w/o a lot of the typical 'mud build up and breath noises.
Yes and sort of one of the more neutral of the lot on bass amp and kick of course.
