we don't need rest!!
Haven't posted here in ages, but would like to jump back in...

Here's a music bed I'm getting ready for a new singer that should smoke in this song. It'll be pretty free form for the vocals, and when they're done, I'll go for the proper mix.

This is Israel Houghton's "You Are Good"...but hopefully a little more rock-n-roll.

btw...here's Israel's version.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCpy1Bg255A

Not a bit fan of the snare tone (add more meat, it's all snap), and the tom rolls are a tad on the robo side of playing, but the rest of the mix kicks butt ... save where you hid the bass player. Is he in the parking lot? (kiddin' ... but again, add more cream)

LOVE the guitar tones ...

All in all, tweaks mostly, C. Great start.

I agree with K-Dub, the snare is a little too snappy. It also seems a bit loud and overwhelms the mix a bit. Could be the snap though... Cool playing and drum track overall and the singer should have an easy time overdubbing vocals on this. Missing = some of you r fabulous lead playing, which, if you're like me will come after the vocals....

thx...yeah the leads come after the vocals, so I don't step on them.

Funny that I agree with the snare drum. Infact these drums are the DFH expansion from Toontrack, and their snares are horrible...I mean they are all snappy or piccolo sounding. So it did a 2nd instance of EZD just to change the snare...and I blended it in with the DFH snare. Obviously not enough. I think I need superior 2.0.  I'll have to work on that snare for sure. I'm sure the mix will change quite a bit once the vocals get laid down. Probably a good solid lead and definately a pile of backgrounds. I've got ANOTHER new female singer...and this one kicks.

I was just hoping the drums didn't have that "hoe-down" feeling :p

I'll probably gate the bee-jeebers out of the snare down the line and try and make it sound larger than life....if I can!

Drums are just a little too loud for the bass and guitar.

Nice playing, man. This is a plum!

thx super... my only "excuse" is this is a backing track at this point...needs a pile of vocals THEN the mix. I love drums btw...even though I'm a gtr player... did I mention that??:rolleyes::D

and bass gtr...what's that!!

btw super, I may or may not have mentioned it over in the studio build, but your place looks awesome. And a set of drums never looked so good in a home studio. Great job.

yeah, I've never liked the sound of DFH. It seems like they did a lot of heavy filtering on their samples for some reason instead of handing us the raw recordings. One thing you can try doing is muting the "under the snare" mic.

Pretty good track, man.
Nice guitar sounds. If you manage to put in a more natural sounding snare, it should be perfect. And vocals of course....;)
Nice recording.

Joey :):):):)

I would say that the high hats especially open are a bit high in the mix. The synths are pretty sweet haha, i love the intro.

The fast closed hat hits get a little quirky and off timing. I like the part after that though. Gives me of a Journey vibe. I like your guitar tones especially. The bass tones nice. Good stuff and welcome back to the clinic! :)
