Earthworks Kickpad?

I just "won" the pleasure of paying for one of these on ebay. Anybody use one? Is it a novelty or a serious tool?

I would like to hear opinions of users, and I will post my impressions after it arrives.
 
According to that silly ad, the A/T POS20 is a great kick mic!:p
 
I sent for the Earthworks demo awhile back, and the kickpad seemed to do alot for the bass drum on the demo...I've never had one or been able to afford the EW mics, thats about all I know. It should help.
 
I love my Earthworks mics as overheads for sure. I've never used the kick pad but it seems to me it's just an instant EQ. Hmmmmm.........
 
I got the kickpad and tried it out this evening. I'm using an EV/257A on the kick. The difference is subtle at first. It tightens the sound and gets rid of stray undesirable resonances. And deepens the kick a little. I did with kickpad and without kickpad recordings as extra tracks on some already recorded material. This turned out to be a good move, as the kickpad really made it's biggest impression in the context of the mix. It is definitely anchoring the low end better. I'm not sure I would have really appreciated it as much as just soloed tracks. All in all, it's a keeper.
