thanx. well at least i've got fruityloops (create and burn) and there's always direct in for vox and Some guitar stuff....what a morass.

Hey setherial, lets go back to the start for a sec.
You said you have a horrible room.
What mic do you use?
What are you trying to record?
What is so horrible about the room?

gee, i'm reading/typing too much! i have a shure bg 2.1 mic which seems fine. it's gotta be this amp in conjunction with the room...a bedroom.
some of my tracks seem ok.
the main vex to me is that many of my mic-ed tracks have this weird mid-rangey/hollow sound that the eq's don't quite correct.
last night i tried boosting a track with a cooledit dynamics processing option which uncovered or grew all kinds of crackling. this after hiss reduction 2x"s.
i also get this high pithced ringing from the amp when playing high notes. i can turn the tone way down to squelch some but i like the tone up.
my cd will be an electro/dark wave/astral metal hybrid.....(!?)
i'm just a novice posting more than experimenting at this time!!!
but, there are some cool chaps here. 'tis fun....
i'm going to try close-in with the amp turned way down as well
and see what happens. tried this way back and forgot the reason why i did'nt try it again.........a side note...i love the furious tremolo picking of true black metal*

Why don't you just rig some stuff up.

For instance, get 2 boom stands, extend them all the way up, with the booms horizontal, as in a T shape.
Now pull the blankets of you bed, and drape them over the T's, placing both stands so as they form a V-shape. Put your mic in the point of the V, and try singing into it like that. I think you'll find that your weird sound will be gone.

sure, the weird sound will be gone, but his clausterphobia will be back!

Who says he shouldn't suffer for art??

SUFFER!!!! CHOKE!! (but at least get it recorded right)

!!!!!!! u got the technical theory behind that?!!!!!!
no one has commented on my big box with egg foam....try and find the technical common denominator here then take it from there.....it's the free for all of waves bouncing around i gather. does'nt anyone record (guitar/amp) with the amp turned way down but with distortion/gain up ?
we're in the middle of the worst heat wave. i can't stand it!
