Third Level's latest project - very early mix.

Prog Rock/Fusion song by Third Level.

Doug Millaway - everything else

Thanks,

You've got some real nasty distortion on the rhythm guitar... and I really don't care for the drums at all - real drums would be much better....

You could also afford to pay more attention to the track placement in the mix - you've got stuff in the center while a solo bit is happening in the center as well and they just trip over each other.

The drums get more and more irritating the longer I listen....!

I like the musical idea -- but the recording needs work.

Definitely

Yeah, we're really going for the song concept first. The drums will definitely be replaced and we haven't done a thing with the mix yet except to record what we have. Track placement is our next objective.

Explanation...

This song has had virtually NO mixing done to it at all yet. We just recorded what we had on disk to get the feel. The drums really need to be re-worked and they are there as a glorified click track only.

We posted mainly to see what people thought of the musical concept. If you've got some ideas about track placement, that would be great. We're always open to suggestion.

Well Here's what I think:

That main guitar phrase that plays throughout the song...you know...beeeaaa baaa naaaaa....I love that....the lead is kind of trashy...sort of jumbled....If you could lay down some sort of melody with your lead guitar it would be great. I'll listen to it a couple of more times to see if I know what I mean.

I've been drinking so that could be good or bad.

drinking...

maybe a few brews would make a difference on this end too.

Yup,

Unless you, or people you know, like listening to the rhythm track for 3+ mins, then you definitely need a melody to go with what you have. I listened to the song 3 times and it sounded as if it was the same thing over and over again for the whole song.

I busted out my guitar the 3rd time and found a couple of good melodies(imho) that went with what ya have.

I dig the rhythm though, I could definitely imagine Satriani starting a song with it.

My final word...More Melody for the rhythm...salt on the meat
